There are few things I love more than National Parks.. I've been to about half of them and absolutely love exploring our nation's most beautiful places. My fiance knows this about me, so when I had planned an overnight trip at Phantom Ranch, I guess I should have known what was coming.
In the back of my mind, I thought this may be the time he would ask, but I didn't want to work myself up in case it didn't. So somehow I managed to miss the set up. We hiked down one day and stayed at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Canyon that night. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and we learned only 1% of visitors actually make it to the canyon floor. The next morning I wanted to do yoga on the beach before we hiked the 9.5 miles back to the rim.
As I stretched my boyfriend set up the camera for a photo of the two of us. We got the photo, he moved the camera for a second photo and as the camera was counting down to the photo, he faced me and said "It's time" and then got down on one knee and told me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me on the shore of the Colorado River in the depths of the Grand Canyon. Everything was perfect and of course I said yes. The hardest part was the seven-hours it took to get out of the canyon and back to cell reception so I could tell my family.
