Dj or No Dj??

We are stuck, do we get a Dj or do we skip? We know many people have done the Ipod thing and its an idea we are bouncing around...to me, a dj announces us when we come in and that's the most of it, besides playing music. I'm not sure if its worth spending 600 bucks on.

Help me out ladies!

It depends on what kind of reception you want. If the music will only be background music, then an ipod is fine.  However, if you want a dance party, a professional DJ will know what music to play and when to play it in order to get the crowd up and dancing.
  • Pay up, it's worth it.
  • Maybe call around and get a better rate? I live in Reno,NV for a 4 hour reception my DJ is 100.00 and hour. He will announce us,announce special dances, bouquet toss, garter throw, etc etc.

  • What kind of reception are you having? If it's fancy, like black tie-ish, you should def get the DJ. If it's more informal, low-key, restaurant type setting ipod would be fine but people probably will not dance that much if the music is coming from the ipod so I think if you would like to have a lot of dancing, DJ is the way to go.

You can probably get a price cheaper than that. Definitely shop around & good luck!

  • Things to consider
*will venue have a stero system that you can hook ipod into
    *who will operate ipod
*if venue doesn't have stereo system, how much will it cost you to get a stereo to put ipod into that will play loud enough for your venue

    Pros to a DJ
*Introduce bride & groom & wedding party
    *Introduces any special dances
*Announces any special things going on like toasts, bouquet toss, etc.
*Will have stereo equipment everyone can hear
*Will have a mike (make sure it's wireless) so everyone can hear toasts & other announcements without yelling
*Can change up what music is being played based on what brings more people out to the dance floor (we thought more modern stuff would be interested but it was music from the 80's & 90's that kept people out on the dance floor so that is what dj played)
    *Will cost more then ipod

So you have to waive the pro and cons of things and figure out which will work best for you
  • I know some people who went to an ipod wedding recently and they made fun ot it and how boring it was because of the lack of a dancing atmosphere
  • A good DJ and food makes or breaks the party.
