60 days to go and I broke my ankle

AGAIN!!

We are just overly thrilled about this (total sarcasm).

last night I came down the stairs and I slipped, stupid i know. twisted my ankle and tried to shake it off. Slept like crud, woke up and my ankle was all black n blue and a bit puffy. I managed to get the day off today (go figure) so they were all surprised when I showed up to have my boss do an X-ray (I'm a Certified med asst). He checked and sure enough I have a fracture.

Off to my foot doctor we went.... We talked him out of casting it since i need to work. he agreed to my walking boot if I follow the rules, reevaluate in 4 weeks and hope were good to go. Trying to be positive since last time was so aweful. Something similar to my right ankle 3 yrs ago, was in a cast for 4 weeks and a walking boot for almost 10 more And I still have pain.

Going to call the seamstress tomorrow and see how much it'll cost to make my dress shorter. Having my final fitting and pick up in 2 weeks, its altered to the shoes I picked, that I haven't mastered walking in. FI Asked if I want to postpone our honeymoon since were going on a cruise. I told him were going and reminded him I may just have to get the water brace like I did last time.

May just have to get creative and decorate a black walking boot for under my white dress.

Ah well... Life goes on!!!

  • I'm so sorry.

  • That is such a shame. I am truly sorry for your pain.  On the bright side, at least you have good health insurance and will be well cared for by your doctor, fiance, and family?

Please reconsider a cast so you don't do any permanent damage to your body for the sake of a single day.  The dress sounds long enough to cover it in photos.

My mom basically cut off her ring finger the day before her wedding (trimming a hedge) and had to take all her wedding photos with her hand behind her back.  Also, obviously, the ring went on her other finger. She was a real trooper, and drove her herself to the hospital, with her finger on ice.  Luckily it was able to be reattached.
  • Oh my gosh Ella. Ouch!!! the cast last time for 4 weeks was beyond aweful. I'm claustrophobic and I truly need to be able to work. A hard cast is unsanitary so I can't if I have one :-( and short term disability pay won't pay even 1/3 of my bills. As for ins, I don't have any right now. It was supposed to kick in April 1st but got delayed. That's why I went to work for X-rays. My ins thru FI starts the day we get married thankfully bc h has killer ins. It's all gonna be ok though,,,, my stairs are quite interesting now. Glad I have 3 awesome sons to help me out since going up n down is alot more work now,

  • Aww we'll such is life right?? Worse things could happen. I was feeling so bad that we had to spend the $$ on this, FI being the sweetheart he is told me this is exactly why we have an emergency fund. Which I do see his point that's for sure. It's not sad bad I can't walk, I just take a bit longer to get from point A to point B. it's not like the car is totaled or it was something life changing... Life goes on. Thanks everyone! Pain is better today. Trying to just take extra strength Tylenol and my aleve. Vicodin turns my stomach.
  • Ouch!!! That really sucks... I hope that you get to feeling better and that everything goes right back on course and smoothly for you. It sounds like your FI is a great and smart guy.
  • I know your pain kind of.  I broke my ankle in the exact same manner you did.  Slipped down the stairs in the middle of night and went to the ER in the morning when I realized I couldn't move it.  I will say this, I'm so glad we planned the wedding for April 2014 and not this year like we were thinking because then I would have been in a cast for my wedding.

At least you go to wear the boot.  My orthopedic was so strict on being in a cast because of the bone I broke.
