Wedding Invitations & Paper

providing directions

Is it neccesary to provide directions with the invite? All of the invitations I have received so far for this summer have included them, but then I immediately throw them away and put the address in my phone or GPS. I know I should not assume that everyone has a GPS, I just am trying to figure out if including this is neccesary. What are your opinions about including directions?

I don't think it's necesary, although, I did. But, I had space on my reception insert, so I included it on there.

Unless the location is particularly difficult to find, I don't think directions are necessary any longer.

I do know that some locations in my area still have addresses that don't route well on GPS or Iphone (you get sent a really weird way).
  • Thank you both! I don't want it to be considered rude if I don't include them but I don't have room and don't want to pay for an extra card just for people to throw away.
  • Our venue is one of those places that mapquest/google/car GPS directs people to wrongly.  We also are including directions/contact information on the same paper (double-sided document) to the hotel block, the afterparty venue, and nearby parking garage.  As our wedding is in a busy downtown area, parking garage information is almost as important as the hotel.
  • You dont have to include another card. I printed a map from wedding mapper on plain paper and inserted it. I also had it linked on the wedding website. Two options to consider.

Remember the older generation is not tech savey and may not have GPS or smart phones. So maybe include maps in just those invitations. If you know your friends are techies then omit the map from theirs.
  • I want people to go to my website, so I put "for more information on accommodations, directions, transportation go to (my website address)".  I think that most people can figure it out. I found my wedding venue on the gps on my phone app okay. I also think that even older folks can find your place. They have found places for years without computers :)
