Ridiculous Registries - who wants to play?

FI's cousin is getitng married in a few weeks, and FI is a groomsman despite not knowing his cousin hardly at all, but that's beside the point. I googled their names to find their registries and oh. my. god. It's like they went to Macy's, sorted by most expensive, and then decide to add only the ugliest items to their registry. There are at least ten $200 4x6 picture frames. I prefer to give gifts instead of money, so we'll probably bite the bullet and purchase the hideous crystal bowl on their registry since it's one of the least ugly items, and I don't feel like the price is outrageous for what it is (aside from the fact that it is u-g-l-y).

Anyway, anyone have any fun registry judgey-pants stories to share? I'm bored.
The worst was when my cousin registered for 91 (I counted) place settings, and a zillion other random things. Their wedding was two weeks ago and last I checked, almost nothing was bought. I think their goal was to give their guests choices and say they don't really mind what they get, but it seemed to have the opposite effect. Most of the guests were probably overwhelmed with everything.
  • My cousin's wedding registry was half things for the house and half crap for his soon to be teenage step kids. My family still talks about this.

  • I know someone who is registered at 4 different places and one items is a chi hair straightener and one of her registries is 175 items long...I'm still speechless...

<div>The hair straightener is weird, but I would need to know both how many people she invited to the wedding as well as how many items were on the other registries before I judge the rest. </div>
Back in the 80s.  Precious Moments wedding frames, a "wedding" album that looked more appropriate for a baby shower. The kitchen decor craze featuring farm animals....udderly awful Holstein-print canisters, cow-faced cream pitchers and sugar bowls, coffee mugs and kitchen curtains with ducks on them, potholders and dish towels with roosting hens..... Every department store sold tiny bathroom soaps shaped like seashells, fish and flowers in colors matched to their line of towels.  Nobody could actually bathe with them because they left sticky film all over your skin. Electronic everything for all of life's needs....toothbrushes, razors, exfoliators, one-cup coffeemakers, <strong>self-cleaning kitty litter box</strong>, quesadilla maker, bun warmer (most useless appliance EVER!), meat slicer......

I would almost be tempted to buy that for that persons shower (assuming she had one), just to see everyone else's reaction when she opened that up.  If I were attending a shower and saw someone open up something like that, I would just be glaring around the room looking at everyone else thinking; "Is this real life..?"

This. We're registered at 4 places, but 3 of them have only a few things on them.
  • I attended the shower of a woman who registered for 3 toasters and a toaster over.
My sister got eleven toasters at her shower.....none of them the one for which she had registered.
    Posted by RetreadBride
How does that even happen?
  • One of my friends did an Amazon registry and she had tons of personal items on it like coach purses, tiffany necklaces, an expensive shaving kit for her FI, super expensive bikes, there pretty much was nothing under $50. I definitely side eyed the ish out of that.

  • I unintentionally registered for 8 sets of sheets. I wasn't paying attention and liked all the colors, until my FSIL pointed it out.

I am attending a wedding in a few weeks where the bride is registered for:<div>
</div><div>2 toasters, a toaster oven, and an english muffin toaster that also cooks eggs</div><div>
</div><div>She also loves to chop and blend apparently:</div><div> chopper/grinder, mini food chopper, juicer, smoothie maker, ninja system (the big one), 2 blenders</div><div>
</div><div>and she loves appliances of other sorts:</div><div>quesadilla maker, pizzazz pizza oven, lefse grill, panini maker...</div><div>

  • This thread got me thinking....what does everyone think of pet stuff on a registry. I put some pet stuff on ours... a few microfiber dog towels and a pet bed on my registry. We have three rescue dogs and all of our family knows this and also knows what HUGE animal lovers we are. So I didn't think much of it... any thoughts?

  • A friend of my fiance registered for their wedding at wal mart - things on their registry included hair spray and a few other personal products, and lots of cleaning products...

One of my cousin's apparently couldn't keep track of what she was registering for and ended up registering between 3 different stores for 6 coffee pots (and she received 4!) and then a mish mash of bedding - she registered for some stuff in queen size and some stuff in king size... i'm still not sure which size bed she actually has (and she only has one bed in her house).

Then my other cousin (the first one's sister) registered for 9 full bath towel/rug sets - each in a different color and including 4 each of bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths... she also registered for 4 sets of calphalon cookware (quantity of 3 of one particular set and then one other random set).  She also registered for some dishes (which were fine, nothing unusual except they were the same ones her sister registered for!  actually many of her items were exactly the same! I really think she was just lazy and copied her sister's registry) but then she registered for one 4 piece place setting set of dishes that didn't match anything else anywhere in the house.

After all these incidents - I have been like hyper aware of what I'm registering for and making sure I have no doubles, and a reasonable amount of towels!
