Grocery Store Cake

Hey people,

The fiance and I are weighing our options for wedding cake, and we both like the idea of getting it from a local grocery store. Has anybody done this? Was it worth it? 

More importantly, did you get to have something like looked like a "traditional" wedding cake? Like, 2 or 3 layers.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!!

    <div>This is exactly what FI and I are trying to do. FSIL was at a wedding that had the traditional 2/3 tiered cake and it was from Giant. Which is a local grocery store and everyone loved it. For us it's more cost effective to order 2 cakes from the grocery store to serve all of our guests. So we are thinking we will have one that's being cut in the kitchen and another that we actually cut for pictures. And once we are done with pictures we are going to have that served as well. </div><div>
    Cost wise the two cakes at the store will serve 250-300+ people (guest list is 240) and cost around $450 with delivery. If we went else where it's a minimum $3.50 a slice = do the math that's $840 for the 240 guests.</div>

    I am going to an ice-cream shop to have my cake done, and it will end up costing around $150 in the end.  I used to work there, so they are going to decorate it specially for me, so that was a bonus.  I however am not doing tiers.  That may contribute to the lower prices.
    Do you need tiers to have it look "traditional"?  I know that my brother had three "tiers", but they were actually just round single cakes that they arranged specially on a table to look fancy.  And it looked traditional, or at least I really thought it did.

    walmart  cakes are so good and they have  great reviews in va ..cake two tier is about 60.00 h
