Smorgasbord Help!

So we finally booked a venue and it will be in a "Castle" in Arizona. http://www.thecastleatashleymanor.com/welcome.html

The venue is awesome because they don't have any "no's". We can use their commonly used vendors or bring our own. Also there are tons of hotels very close. We will be having hopefully a ton of out of town guests from all over...CA,IL, IN, NY, WI, and more.

However, I am having trouble with decor ideas and how to personalize our wedding.Orginally, I was thinking more rustic/cutesy stuff for decor(burlap, chalkboards, etc) but, with this venue I don't think it will work at all. I need some major help with personalizing it!!

Here's me and my guy's breakdown of our love and interests. We met on e-harmony and luckily have gotten our hands on our old profile pics/communications. We have three cats, love wine, cheesecake, and traveling(in the US only so far). I am huge Disney dork, Harry Potter lover, and he loves medieval stuff as well as science fiction. Not sure how the hell to incorporate our totally weird and random interests without it being tacky! I hate anything that basically looks cheap and would rather handmake things.

Need ideas for signature drinks( will have an open bar during reception), favors, welcome bags, save the dates/invites, general decor. HELP PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE! I am currently not working right now so have time on my hands but, once I work again I will have no time or life to plan so want to start now.

Here's what we have so far:
Dress: Oleg Cassini Champagne with lace overlay
Bridemaids: David's Bridal Sangria color, girls are choosing their style...no clue what to do for shoes for myself or them. I hate heels :(
Boys: They want a light or dark gray suit

Re: Smorgasbord Help!

  • I too am getting married in a castle. I will be of no help here sorry. We broke down and decided on a wedding coordinator because i have so many ideas that they are all jumbled together. I know not everyone has the money for that but most will answer questions for free.

They don't need to be fancy or fit a theme. We did one with vodka that I like, and one with bacardi that DH likes.
    favors
Skip favors, or do something edible. Edible favors that go over well are: Chocolate/fudge covered Oreos, Godiva chocolates (or similar quality), decorated cut-out sugar cookies. Skip any "trinkets" and things like jordan almonds/m&ms/hersheys kisses/etc. Those things are overdone, anyways, and your money is better spent elsewhere
    Welcome bags
    Skip them entirely
    Save the dates/invites
Check out sites like Etsy for inspiration. I used a company called Shine Wedding Invitations (found on Etsy) and a lot of TK brides have successes with Wedding Paper Divas or VistaPrint
    General decor
I am of the opinion that less is more. Stick to floral arrangements and candles. Themes are outdated and can turn tacky/overdone very quickly.
  • Ditto with the coordinator! She's going to help me refine all of the ideas and pictures that I've collected.

Do you have a theme? That could help narrow down your ideas. Our is: Game, Set, Match! Because we're getting married at a tennis club, we love sports and are a perfect match. Cue eye rolling now, I know its a little sappy.

Approach the wedding planning like eating an elephant: one bite at a time. You have your attire (great job!), now move on to bouquets, or maybe table layout. It'll all come together!
  • No set theme. I want to have favors or something because we have a lot of out of town guests who I want to know we are grateful for them coming. We are secretly trying to get some of our midwest friends/family to love it here to the point they move here ha. Also next summer is my parents 25th anniversary trying to plan something to that too, They have no clue what their song was so no luck there. I def don't care about spending a fortune on flowers because they die so quickly. I am thinking of either ordering or trying to make a brooch bouqet actually for myself.
