Announcement Wording?

Here's the announcement my mom wants to run in our local newspaper to announce our duel graduation and wedding. Is it up to par?
Also we would like to mention FI deceased mother, but are having trouble with the wording since his father recently remarried. Help? I left our parents first names in help ease confusion. His moms name is Stephanie and his dads new wife's name is Sharon.

"Greg and Jill of (place) along with Neal and Sharon of (place), announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their children, (us). (bride) is the granddaughter of (names) of (place) as well as (names) of (place). She is a 2009 graduate of (place) and a 2013 graduate of (place) with a degree is Professional Chemistry and Biology. (Groom) is the grandson of (names) of (place) and the late (names). He is a 2004 graduate of (place) and served as a Navy Corpsman from 2004-2008. He is a 2013 graduate of (place) with a degree in Biology and will attend medical school at (place) in the fall. The couple will be married July 27, 2013 at (place) with Rev. (name) officiating."

Re: Announcement Wording?

  • I think it sounds fine.  However, are you two B.A. grads with your first degree or A.A. grads?  If it's not a B.A./B.S.. for the first degree you're announcinging I'd nix that part.
  • since his mother is deceased she can't really 'announce' anything.  Are both sets of parents truly announcing?  It might be easier to do:

"Greg and Jill of (place) are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter (bride) to (groom); son of Neal and Sharon of (place), and the late Stephanie.  .....

But if the four of them all want to be listed as announcers I would do:

"Greg and Jill of (place) along with Neal and Sharon of (place), announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their children, (us). (bride) is the granddaughter of (names) of (place) as well as (names) of (place). She is a 2009 graduate of (place) and a 2013 graduate of (place) with a degree is Professional Chemistry and Biology. (Groom) is the son of the late Stephanie and grandson of (names) of (place) and the late (names). He is a 2004 graduate of (place) and served as a Navy Corpsman from 2004-2008.
