October 2013 Weddings

Checks

Tuesday we sent off the words for the sides, front and inside of our memory box so the Etsy seller is going to start burning it today!

Monday we sent out the rest of our save the dates (to his aunts and uncles he just recently decided he wanted to invite after all).

Wednesday we met with the company we are renting our chairs from and finalized what we are renting. I do not particularly like this lady so I am glad the meeting went well (besides our 10 minute wait for her to get ready for the appt).

This week we started calling around for hotel room blocks. I ended up signing up for a hotels.com group booking thing where you put in your information and hotels bid on getting you to come there for your group. Well I got like 5 bids and one was really good. 16% off normal prices.
It is $99 a night for the courtyard Marriott which was just fully renovated a few years ago. It also came with a free night for the bride and groom if we booked 10+ rooms. You can counteroffer with hotels through this hotels.com thing.
Since we are having a small wedding I did not think we would be able to book 10 rooms so I counter offered saying we were wondering if we booked 5+ rooms if we could get our room upgraded to a king suite (best room) instead for Friday and Saturday. She replied back saying no matter what we can get our room upgraded for Friday and Saturday (and still only pay $99) and if we book 10+ we still get Saturday night free! Super excited!

Also, fiance is finally starting to get in the swing of planning with me. He has helped the whole time but when I have brought things up he was sometimes like we have plenty of time. Now he is bringing things up we need to get done to me!

How is everyone else doing? Sorry to post and run but I am off to work. I will check in tonight when I get back!

Re: Checks

  • I cannot compete with you woman!  Well done on your progress!

We sent off cake and DJ deposits this week.  I made some calls on an officiant.  I will have to post another time about the BSC lady we met last week.  I've never been so speachless or asked someone to clarify because I thought I heard wrong in my life.

I am still working thru centerpieces.  I ordered a sample from Cards and Pockets (a complete blank invite to test with the printer).  So I am going to do that soon to see how it all works.  If it goes well, I will probably order the invites.

    S'mores. Just S'mores please.
  • I cannot compete either. We sent in the signed contract and deposit for the cake baker this week and I finished drawing the pictures for our invites. I still have to photoshop the invites together and decide on a size for the RSVP cards before those will be ready. I really need to find a florist but I don't care too much about flowers so I am not very motivated.
  • You go superwoman!

I emailed the DJ I've decided to use to have him send me the proposal/contract.

Started shopping around for a custom woodworker to make our guest book and found out that FI's stepdad does that!

Decided on bridesmaids earrings and gifts (Will be ordering as soon as my tax return hits the bank)

And my first fitting is scheduled for April 15!
  • Holy whoa.  You women are super women!  I'm keeping my stuff so simple.  All I've accomplished is ordering the STDs, getting them addressed (waiting on the stamps to come in to send them out), ordering my dress, booking reception and ceremony locations, making the appointment to select the tuxes and that's -it-.  And, been talking to the lady who's going to make the cake about what I want, etc.  Have a hair appointment this weekend to cut/color/highlight my hair and, if I like this stylist, hire her for the wedding.

I'm looking for invitations, but so far I can't find anything that I either like, or that doesn't break the bank!  And I've been after him to talk with the photographer.  And, just need to order seeds for the favors (we're giving bluebonnet seeds and some other seed which will bloom a purple flower as wedding favors).  And, looking for a string trio for the ceremony.  Oy.  GLAD there's still time to get all this done!!

Been after FI to go do our tasting, but...he keeps putting me off.  Undecided  Which stinks, because I'm DYING to try some yummy food!!
  • You ladies are doing awesome! I feel soooo far behind. I'm so overwhelmed I don't know where to start/go exactly. FI says we have plenty of time so he is little to no help!
  • Wow. Guys, I've done nothing lately. But, I had a strong start, so I'm not worried.

But, this post literally kicked my butt into high gear. After reading it (and leaving the browser window open) I've contacted my cake baker (my cousin!) and we've had a few message exchanges about flavors and samples since I'll be going to visit her in two weeks.

Then, I email our pastor about our next meeting.

For real this time, we might get wedding bands this weekend. (Maybe.)

<div>My FI says this all the time and I swear every time he says it my head is able to spin around a few degrees more than before.  Sometime before the wedding I know it will spin a full 360</div>

  • Mochie, you reminded me that I need FI to decide where we are staying on our wedding night.  He is staying at the B&B that his parents rented out the entire house the night before, for them and his grandparents.  We have been offered to stay there and just keep the room he picks, but he hasn't decided so I will get on him about that now.

I sent our cake deposit out yesterday, so all set there.  We gave her free reign and the flavors are going to be chocolate with a dark chocolate filling and raspberry filling.  The cake is 3 layers so each piece gets both fillings.

We already paid the deposit on FI tux, my dress is just about paid for, rings are picked out and set aside (waiting on engraving to come back), DJ deposit paid, Videographer deposit paid, decorations and rental deposit paid, florist deposit paid.  Favors are a donation to charity so we are all set there.  GM & BM gifts are just about all done, just need one more thing for each girl and FI is ordering one more thing for each GM.  Invitations will be finalized on Sunday, they put the order to print in before we gave the go ahead and we needed to make a change so we are meeting with them on Saturday to give the final go ahead to print, but we already paid the deposit.

What we have left, but totally correct me if I'm forgetting something:
    - card holder (no clue what we are doing with a library/vintage wedding any suggestions I'm all ears)
    - honeymoon depsosit (doing that next Sunday, trying to pick which hotel)
    - Parents gifts (again no clue)
    - Sunday brunch caterer needs to be picked
    - programs (waiting til a few weeks before when we know for sure about one of our readers)

I feel like I'm forgetting something huge, but I have no idea what.
  • libby, photographer? or is your videographer your photog as well?
  • Photog was one of the first thing we got.  Lplions thanks so much for looking over our list.  I'm worried that we are forgetting something big.

For the card holder what about a faux stack of old looking books?
  • I just bought my wedding garter set! It's a beautiful lace applique and pearl design. I'll post pics when they arrive. FI and I are interviewing the first two DJ's tomorrow. Fingers crossed! If neither of them jive, I will have to schedule more interviews. We are going shopping for my little sister's BM dress on Sunday. It will be my FSIL's first introduction to my family. Hoping it goes well! The first communications have been bumpy because my family is terrible at communicating.

<div>Have fun shopping and good luck with everyone meeting.  Things tend to smooth over when face to face so I'll cross my fingers that it all goes well for you.   My sis is in another state and likely wont make it here for FL till the wedding.  I am super envious of all the sister time you ladies get so I live vicariously thru you all!</div>

I'm envious that you all ready have your DJ booked! And also very happy that you got out of the BSC female officiant situation with grace. FI and I had to deal with one very similar to that. It took all my control to not backpedal the hell out of there and I couldn't wait to send her the "thank you for your time but we've decided on someone else" email.

I'm grateful for the family time now. If the weddings I've attended have been any indication, I won't get much time with everyone when the day rolls around. At least sister bonds are the strongest no matter if you reside in different states.
