Veil or no veil?

My grandmother wants me to wear a veil because she says that it is tradition. But the hairstyle that I am thinking about im not sure how the whole veil thing will work out. is it ok to not wear a veil, or if i wear one, do i have to put it over my head while walking down the isle?
The hairstyle is a loose and casual sidebun with a flower.

Re: Veil or no veil?

  • It doesn't sound like that style would work with a traditional veil, but could work with a birdcage veil. If that's not your style though, it's fine to skip it. I'm sure many other aspects of your wedding aren't what your grandmother would consider traditional, and I'm sure she'll think it's lovely anyway.
  • It's O.K. not to wear a veil.

If you wear one, you don't need the veil over your face if you don't want to.

If you're open to the idea of a veil, ask the bridal salon if you can try a few on with your dress. I'd personally recommend purchasing it elsewhere, though, because bridal salons really overcharge for veils (especially if you want a plain one).

  • I am in a simliar situation, except I was planning on a side pony and have a headband that has lots of crystals and beading. At first I said I was completely against any type of veil, but then I heard a bridal store owner telling another girl something about how most people expect the bride to wear a veil, and that it is your day to stand out and be different from everyone else (think how many people in the audience will have a bun/pony!)

She also brought up the fact that if you look back on your pictures in 20+ years will you wish you had worn a veil? Will you REALLY feel like a bride? I started thinking about it, and now I'm undecided. A suggestion she made was to wear a veil with a simple hairstyle (down, partly pulled back, etc) and then take the veil off and have your hair changed for the reception (then you could put your flower in.) This way you have the best of both worlds! As far as what type of veil it should be whatever style you like and goes with your dress. I know if I choose to wear one it will be short, simple, and only be in the back!
