Santa Fe Wedding Night

My fiance and I are getting married this spring in Santa Fe and are looking for a good hotel/house to stay at for the first few nights after the wedding. We live in Albuquerque, so we'd preferably like to stay in the Santa Fe or Taos area. I've looked at a lot of great hotels (especially near the plaza), but everything is heavily southwestern themed, which we'd like to stay away from. Something like Hotel Andaluz in ABQ would be nice. We're definitely open to non-hotel accomodations as well (like rental homes). Any suggestions?

In Taos there's a B&B called The Brooks Street Inn that wasn't hit you over your head southwestern, I enjoyed it when I went there a few years ago.
Another B&B in Santa Fe is The Madeline, which is in town and near-ish the plaza.

It's hard to get completely away from any southwestern decor in Santa Fe or Taos, at all.

Might I suggest Ten Thousand Waves? http://www.tenthousandwaves.com/ It's totally NOT southwestern!

I suggest La Posada, a French mansio from the 1800's that was turned into a small, private hotel, restaurant and courtyard.  It has a pation restaurant, lounge/bar, pool, spa, and private "casitas" as the rooms, it's absolutely lovely :-)

A bed-and-breakfast doesn't seem private enough to me for your honeymoon nights.  I would stay at Buffalo Thunder.  It is relatively new; the rooms are elegant and the southwestern theme is there but tastefully done and understated.  Pools, spa and lots to do.  Also you would be away from the Plaza, which it sounded like you wanted.  There is a van that can take you into town, which is just 15 minutes away.

If you want to be closer to town, but still away from the Plaza, Bishop's Lodge is a possibility, although not as elegant.  They do have a nice pool and spa.

Have you thought about Hyatt Tamaya just north of Albuquerque?  It has a similar vibe as Buffalo Thunder.  It has a very nice spa and I love it's zen feeling.

Do you need a "Day of Event" coordinator?

We stayed at Buffalo Thunder for our honeymoon last June and absolutely loved it!! Gorgeous views, a little outside the city so more resort-like. Awesome pool and hot tub. There's a golf course if you like to golf and also a Casino, as well as a few really good restaurants in the hotel. We spent 2 days there just chillin' at the hotel - lots to do and very cozy/romantic! It's got a very nice, upscale Southwestern theme, definitely not cheap looking! We pricelined our room and got it for about $75/night - best deal ever!
