Texas-Dallas and Ft. Worth

Venue input appreciated!

Hello, all! I'm new here...not formally engaged (as in, the ring isn't on my finger yet, but we're just starting to plan). FH and I will be having an outdoor rustic wedding and I would like to keep our entire wedding cost under $10K. There are three venues we're looking at and I wanted to see if any of you had any experience with them - i.e., found out certain things weren't included that added to your cost, etc. They are:

1899 Farmhouse in Princeton;
Swingin' D Ranch in Allen; and
Shadow Ridge Farm in Terrell.

TIA!!

Re: Venue input appreciated!

  • hi there,

    1899 farmhouse is beautiful and the owners are really nice. They have many areas to have your ceremony that are all beautiful. You might want to take a drive out there as it is a little far and the only downside I would see is there is not a hotel for out of town guests closer than Plano.

    Swinging D is ok, we went in the winter on a cold wet day to view it and the reception room smelled like wet dog, I couldnt get over the smell but that could be totally different in spring and summer so I would suggest looking at it and not ruling out anything until you view them. I believe they are pretty all inclusive if I remember correctly. The ceremony location is really pretty.

    I havent been to the last one you mentioned. but I will add that the place I was married at is beautiful and budget friendly. My theme was rustic and it worked perfectly.

    Magnolia Terrace in Frisco
  • We had a knottie get married at Swingin' D, but she hasn't been around since her wedding.  She might have done reviews, so maybe Stephie has them saved.  I seem to remember she was very happy with it.  I also went to a reception there and thought it was a really nice location, but that's about all I can give you.

  • I looked but couldn't find any reviews.  Ktwed is getting married at Swingin' D but her wedding isn't until June.

    1899 Farmhouse seems pricey to me--almost $5k just to rent the place, but they do provide alot (although white garden chairs are used--not my favorite) and you have to pay extra for linens.  They show chivari-type chairs on their website but that's not what it says on their price list.  Stuff like that drives me crazy.  JMO.
  • Thanks, all!  Tiffany - I'll check out Magnolia Terrace...hadn't heard of that one before!

    please do, it's such a hidden gem! the website isnt fully launched yet but you can inquire through it just google magnolia terrace frisco. If you would like to see pics of a wedding in progress "mine" visit my photgraphers facebook page "from the other side of the camera" look at Tiffany and Shane's pics and you can see the venue. Also Magnolia Terrace has a facebook page and they have pics on there too, most are from my wedding since it was the first one there but they took them before guests arrived so you can see one example of how the set up went. We had 70 guests and the max is 100. Due to the weather we had the DJ and the cake table in the main recpetion room and it worked find but there are so many more spaces to ultilize at this venue when its not raining.
