Pre Marital Counselling

We have our pre-marital counselling session scheduled for this Thursday evening. How many of you are going to pre-marital counselling? Have you already gone? Did you learn anything new? Was it worth going?

We are required to do pre-marital counselling and pre-cana through the church. So far we've finished pre-cana and only have 1 pre-marital counselling meeting with the priest left. We've had 3 meetings with the priest already. For us we've been together for almost 5 years so we've talked through a lot of the issues they covered. We did take some of the communication information to heart though, and we've worked on telling each other that we appreciate each other more often. In that way it's been useful, but we already knew what we were planning to do as far as financials, living, transportation, etc.

My FI and I were directed to take a FOCUS online marriage survey. Once you are done with the survey, they then set you up with a married couple who are apart of the church as facilitators. They discuss your results, compare answers, bring up issues that you two may/may not have disagreed on. It was very casual and laid back. Of course, I feared the worst, and thought; "Oh no, they are not going to allow us to get married because we didn't answer them all right." We actually just got done meeting with our Priest to set up rehearsal time the night before and choose readings and stuff. Good luck with yours tonight.

havent done it nor are we required to do it. but I was thinking I might want to go to it bc it cant hurt just curious what its all about. I texted my firend whos doingit and shes said she loves it and advises any couple getting married to go, So when my Fi gets home i wanna ask him about it

We were required to do it by our pastor. I enjoyed it, it was more of a group style. But, a lot of the things that were brought up we already had talked about. We also took away from it the fact that some things "arn't wrong, just different." We also have to have a more personal meeting with our pastor just to go over a last few things!

We are required to do it with our Pastor also. We took an online "compatibility" quiz, but still have to meet with him. He said there would be about 6 sessions.

We are going to pre-cana next weekend (20th and 21st), actually. We've met with the priest at the church for the FOCCUS and to talk a few times, which has been nice but fairly laid-back/informal since he's not the priest who's marrying us; our priest from college is doing the ceremony in FI's home church. I'll report back when it's over, lol.

We had to do pre-marital counselling as part of our marriage preparation as well with the Catholic church. It was long but I think it was fun. We already had talked about a lot of the things we went over but it was nice to connect to married couples who had been married a significant amount of time. I enjoyed it personally.

I don't think we're going to end up doing it. I kind of wanted to, but we already communicate really well and have talked about every possible issue there is!

Maybe we'll do one of the online surveys.

My fiance and I did the focus and matched so well that we weren't required to do any futher meetings, only other requirement is the engaged encounter weekend which we attend in July!
