Venues

Hi! I recently got engaged and just started to look at venues. I have 5 on my list that I am going to look at but I wanted to see if anyone had any reviews on these. We are looking to get married August 2014 so hopefully these will still be available when we go.

The places were are looking at are:

Wyndham Grand
Marriott City Center
Doubletree Downtown
Circuit Center in Southside
Sheraton Station Square

Any insight would be great because I want to pick the perfect venue and this is all a little overwhelming. Thank you in advance.

Re: Venues

  • We took a look at the Sheraton Station Square when we were picking venues - and we did like it a lot. Your guests will have a lot of options when not at your wedding in terms of places to eat or stay, the views are stunning and you can easily do rehearsal dinner on the Gateway Clipper. We really did like the place...

Just be aware of a few things. We ended up going with the downtown Renassaiance becasue the Station Square Sheraton had some things they wouldn't be flexible about. Where we got our cake from and what we stocked at the bar were very important to us - and the Sheraton isn't flexible about all of those things. Also, when we took a closer look at the contract, it appears as though you are charged the highest price of the plated meals you choose instead of a varying price per meal - and we have a lot of vegetarians coming so that didn't make sense for us. I may have interpreted that worng though (we had already made our decision so I kind of just scanned through it).

But it was honestly a close call - I think it would be hard to go wrong with the Sheraton!
  • I went to a wedding at the Doubletree and it was nice.  Food was good.  Appetizers were also good and we had enough room outside of the ballroom to be in a separate area during the cocktail hour which was nice.  It was very much like most hotel weddings I have been to---even though it was downtown it could have just as easily have been in a suburb for the same kind of experience (except the downtown parking was a *little* more challenging for guests).  I think some of the other places on your list will show off downtown better with the views, etc (Sheraton, Wyndham)....if that is something you are interested in you might want to also consider Lemont.
I have not been to a wedding at the CIrcuit Center but I know the Southside Works very well; much like Station Square it would be an excellent place for OOT guests to stay, shop and eat.
