My husband and I couldn't afford a full-on honeymoon when we got married last year (we just did an overnight mini-moon to Montreal), but we're thinking of doing one this year, near our first anniversary. But I have no idea where we should go. The major problem is that everywhere I really want to go is too expensive: I'd love to go to Europe, but we just can't swing it. I thought of St. Martin: also too pricey. And Hawaii would be nice, except it's also too expensive (we live on the East Coast, so the airfare's sky-high).
My husband doesn't seem to have many ideas. He did mention the idea of a cross-country road trip, but the problem with that is that it doesn't seem romantic at all, plus it would require me to share the driving, and I hate to drive -- driving is work to me, and if I'm going to have to do work, I might as well stay home, 'cause vacations are supposed to be relaxing and fun, not work.
So where should we be looking at? We'd be getting there from near Albany, NY, and we'd be going in mid-to-late September. We like sightseeing, museums, beaches and good food (beaches not required but a plus). Somewhere romantic would be good (obviously). We don't drink or go clubbing. And we've already been most places that are close by (Vermont, Mass., Maine). Flying somewhere is OK, but $1,000+/person airfare is out of our price range. If anyone's got suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
