Re: Oh Dear.

  • what??? I'd be pretty annoyed if FI did this.

  • I think it's a little different.  To be fair, they were engaged, he just moved it up.  It's not like he completely planned it before they got engaged - they had plans in place, he just moved them up.

That being said, I'd be furious if I was her.  I don't do well with surprises with large groups of people.

  • I mean, at least she didn't look upset/furious about it - so hopefully that means he knows her very well and was sure she'd appreciate the surprise. That said - I would be sooooooo upset if BF did this. Considering how much I enjoy planning out every get together or party we throw, I'd be devastated not to get to help plan a wedding.

Years ago, I actually attended a surprise wedding. Both the man and the woman had previously been married, and at this point they had been together for several years, had a house together, etc., but they were NOT engaged. They threw a huge pool party (for the 4th of July, I think). He got down on one knee, proposed, and then asked her if she wanted to get married right now. When she agreed, he had a justice of the peace come out and marry them right then and there. It was crazy.

  • I would probably have an anxiety attack if FI did this.
  • I'm way too type A with planning and detail that I'd probably have an anxiety attack too...unless he bought me lots of wine first.  Haha

<div>Ditto. He'd really have to know his audience ...</div>
  • I would run so fast...

...and I don't even like running.
  • I would just be upset that I missed out on the engagement part. It's kinda fun being engaged and all new and fresh.

  • I also think that the fact that they were already engaged doesn't make this any less ridiculous. Even though he "just moved everything up" - SHE wasn't involved. I don't see how that is any different.

And, no, she may not look upset on the video, but I'd put on a happy face too, and then rip his balls off when we got home. I'd be pissed.

  • True Story- My land lady's nephew did this. He and his LT GF were on vacation in Nicaragua, and instead of just proposing like a normal person, he 'surpised' her with a wedding. They then had THREE more weddings in the states. 1 JOP wedding (b/c Nicaragua one wasn't legal) then 1 PPD with his family in MI and 1 PPD with hers in CA.

So, they had 4 weddings, and the only funereal was for my faith in humanity...

  • Oh I'd be pissed.  I think she was too, since she advised everyone else not to do it.

  • So one of the local radio stations did a segment on this video, this morning. They asked their interns and listeners if they would be upset. Most said yes they would, that they'd go through with it, but be mad about it.
Then some gal who said she was 22 calls in and says, "I'm not engaged, but I've had my wedding planned out for years now. I'm a 'planner' and if my BF did that then the day wouldn't be all about ME! And that day is supposed to be about ME!"
I yelled not nice things at my radio.
