T & P

It's interesting to me that so many knotties send thoughts and prayers.  I actually just had a conversation with DH about this yesterday. . . . he said that people say they send them but dont.  I think that is BS, anytime I say that I am sending thoughts and prayers to someone I do.

Today I am sending extra thoughts and prayers to SummerBride2011, Hoboken, and the families of the innocent victims of the Boston Marathon explosions.

Re: T & P

  • I am speaking for myself, if I say i'm doing it I do it, and these are the people that I am thinking of today

I agree with Linger. I think a lot of people don't ever actually do it. I try to do it right then, so I don't forget.
  • That's sad if he's right, but at least they had the thought in the beginning to send them.  If others or I say it they/I mean it and will follow through.  And I second all your T & Ps.
  • I, too, do it right then. It takes like 5 seconds.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

I will definitely say some quick prayer or an out loud though to God when ever I say I am sending thoughts and prayers.  If there are people I am closer to IRL or even here when I go to church each week I do pray for them.  I'd like think even if it's for a brief moment someone does say a prayer sends out good vibes to the world for that person.

  • I do honestly mean my well wishes and vibes, but am careful never to say I am 'praying'.  Not what I'm doing, so I'm not going to lie.

    Anniversary

  • I don't really feel comfortable offering thoughts and prayers to people I don't know because I don't know their full stories or enough about them to feel like my thoughts are going to fully encompass the situation, so I don't often offer them. I'll sometimes find myself wondering about updates, but it's not a full-on 'I better make a point of thinking about this' type thing. I will sometimes light incense for someone when I get home from work or pray the mala with the closing lines of the prajnaparamita, but it's for people who I know well (family members, patients, patients' families).

When it comes to disasters, I'm more likely to go donate blood or the like than offer thoughts and prayers.

  • I don't offer thoughts and prayers, because I don't believe in god or prayer.  I will tell people that I'm genuinely sorry they are going through X and offer my support or assistance if possible, or tell them "I hope it gets better for you".   And in that moment, I really do hope it gets better.  I think that's really what most people mean by "thoughts and prayers".  In the moment they are typing it, they really do hope for the person, but I think it's unlikely they will carry that through the day.
  • I send thoughts and prayers freely!  All you have to do is ask!
  • Although, now that I think about it...  when Stage's hermie was sick... I woke up worrying in the middle of the night.  But, I generally care more about animals than I do about people.

<div>This is exactly what I was going to say. I don't pray so I'm very careful not to say, "My prayers are with you." I say "thoughts," or "good vibes" or something to that effect. </div>

<div>This is what I do. If it's heavy on my heart I may do it again later in the day when I think about it.</div><div>
</div><div>I don't think it's worth criticizing those who say it and maybe don't do it. They're obviously trying to be comforting. I don't think too much on it.</div>
  • Thanks Kaos. Never underestimate the power of knottie vibes.  DH got called for an interview on Friday for another school in the diocese. It's almost a sure thing because they always place displaced teachers first before hiring from the outside. It's only part time but it's a start until something else comes along.
