RSVP deadlines?

Hey knotties!
I'm in the middle of getting my invitations/RSVP cards done and I'm wondering if I need an RSVP deadline. Is that a common thing to have? I feel stupid asking this, but I really didn't think about it until now.
Also, if my wedding date is October 18, what would be a realistic deadline to have the RSVP cards back?

Yes, you need a deadline or you will still be getting RSVP's back the day before your wedding. Usually your deadline is 1-2 weeks before the final count is due to your caterer. This allows you time to call any stragglers who have not sent back their cards and find out if they are coming or not.

I would have a deadline even if you don't have a catering issue.  Otherwise, you are going to be pulling your hair out one week before, trying to figure out if Aunt So-and-So is going to the wedding.

  • Thanks for the advice, everyone! It definitely makes sense now.
My caterer needs to know the final count a week and a half before, so around the 9th.

<div>LIke others that posted, I will make my RSVP deadline about 10 days prior to when my final count is due.  A week is probably sufficient but you know your guests best.  If you think you will be following up with some then give yourself that time for straggler RSVPs to come back and for you to follow up.  You'll need your list to make any seating arrangements and anything else that is based on a number.  </div>
    S'mores. Just S'mores please.
  • I know the post has died down, but I got excited when I saw that you and I are both getting married on October 18th! My caterer needs our count 30 days before (sept. 18) So, for us, I'm aiming for the first of September as the rsvp deadline at the LATEST. Mostly because I am doing a seating chart and personalized favors for the guests and I want to give myself some extra padding in the time.
