June 2013 Weddings

Anyone not doing programs??

I don't really see the point of the wedding program. Do I really need to do something to say when were eating, dancing, cake cutting, etc????

We are hosting ourselves, its going to be a relaxed party for a reception. It's an upscale dinner service but its also buffet. I went to 2 weddings with formal sit down dinner and was bored and left feeling hungry so we opted not to do this.

Our DJ is doing a sequence of events so he knows for music and what to announce and when but otherwise it'll just be music non stop and food always available.

Cocktail hour starts at 3. Wedding at 4. Reception immediately following (same place, about 100 yards from the ceremony) then the reception goes till 930pm. The bar and buffet will shut down at 9pm.

Re: Anyone not doing programs??

  • me again...No one else must be up!  We are doing programs at the ceremony, but just simple this is who everyone is, this is the song, etc.  I have never been to a wedding with the cocktail hour before the ceremony, which I think is awesome by the way.  Are you putting the timing order of events on your invite?

  • I do not think we are doing it. Our Priest told us to send our money some where else. because they always get left behind or thrown away!

  • Cilli u made me laugh lol. The order of events isn't anywhere. I never thought much about it till this weekend. The venue suggested cocktail hour since everyone is traveling to the wedding. It's outside in the mountains. June is the most beautiful time of year. There is a pond and just alot of scenery to take in. We're going up next weekend and its Georgous!! This way guests can hang around, chit chat and have a drink before the wedding. We loved the idea and it was included in our bar price :-)
  • I am not doing them.
We are having the ceremony and reception in the location.  We have a DJ, so I'm sure he'll just get on the mic, and let people know what it's time for, and where to go.

I may give a run down of events from the rehersal dinner through to the reception party, to the bridesmaids/groomsmen/parents, just because it was helpful for me when I was in other people's weddings.
  • Hmmm...we're doing programs but mostly for the ceremony and to acknowledge the wedding party. We won't be including reception timeline info.
