XP: More FMIL/MOB Issues

Okay, this was my previous post about a month ago about my FMIL:

(hopefully I did that right- I'm stil new to this)

My FMIL flew from NC to KY when my FI and I visited from Chicago a few weeks ago. She researched RD places. After the previous post (wheh she emailed the caterer), FI let her know that she had overstepped and she seemed to back off, but when she was in KY, she really upset my MOH (also sister and wedding planner) and my mama.

She sort of just had a look of disgust on her face everywhere we went. From cake tasting to checking out the venue, she just didn't have anything positive to say. She doesn't offer her opinion in an "i think..." way. She makes it seem like any option other than hers is ridiculous. (ex: the groom is the only man wearing a suit. the other groomsmen are just wearing vests with sleeves rolled up. She says: I'm sure you'll want them to rent the suit jackets, too so that they can wear them for formal pictures.") *I bean-dipped her --> you all should be proud!

I tried to be inclusive because her response for her previous overstepping was that she felt excluded. Now, my mama, and MOH are upset because when FMIL wants to be "involved," they think she really wants to control and don't feel like it is the MOG's place to be involved in the wedding planning.

FMIL is also throwing me a bridal shower this weekend when we visit and I have had to listen to MOH and my mama wonder if MOG is trying to show up the shower that they threw for me.

I am making myself sick worrying about how to handle this situation. I've spoken to FI about his mama and the way she acted and his response was "it's just the way she is"

I am dreading seeing FMIL this weekend. I hate being in the middle. I am so grateful that FMIL is willing to help pay for the RD, but hate that she tries to pay for other things wiithout letting us know. I also love my mama and sister and don't want their feelings to get hurt by my FMIL.

Any advice, commiseration, or letting me know if i'm just batsh*t crazy would be great.

Re: XP: More FMIL/MOB Issues

  • I invited her to the vendors because she was in town and because when I didn't include her at all, she took it upon herself to do things without us. I guess I was trying to make her feel included because I didnt want her feelings hurt.

The more you include her the more "free advice"/opinions she will offer. If you don't want her input, stop sharing the details with her.
