Cake Pops!

We are considering having a small cake to slice in a display with cake pops for the guests. We are kind of quirky. For those of you who have had cake pops, how many should we allocate for our guests?

BTW, there needs to be a forum for the husbands-to-be like me who enjoy wedding planning :)

Re: Cake Pops!

  • I have no idea about cake pops (other than I am not a fan of them) but there is no need for a separate forum.  We do have men who post regularly on all of the boards.

  • I think you need to have more then just cake pops for dessert for your guests.  They are not substantial like cupcakes or cake would be.

Cake pops along with brownies, pie, cookies, etc would be a nice dessert bar.  You can still have a small cake to slice into if you wish.

Or you could do cake pops as your favor (one for each guest) and then just have a traditional wedding cake decorated in a quirky manner for all your guests to enjoy.

BTW I like cake pops, I make them every year for Christmas and also for any work office parties and such but that is only because I know that other desserts will be present.  If I was making the only dessert for a function, cake pops would not make the cut.

  • I love cake pops, but honestly I feel like you will end up spending so much more money on them than cupcakes or cake slices. The smaller, more bite sized things get, the more people will eat. If only take one slice of cake, put if eat at least 3 cake pops. I'd go with PP suggestion and at least add some brownies or cookies.

  • I think people will be disappointed if they see you cutting a cake but then don't get offered a slice of cake.  You don't have to have a multi-tier cake.  You can have a dessert bar with cake pops, cake slices from sheet cakes, and other things.

And anyone can post here, so feel free to explore the boards and not feel excluded as a groom-to-be.  However, you will notice that people will comment on whatever you write, not just what you ask--which is great, because you will get new ideas and might avoid some bad ones, but you need to have a little bit of a thick skin on the interwebs.
  • I think cake pops are a great idea. There are so many fun/ cute ways to display them. I recently went to a baby shower where all they did was buy styrofoam balls from Michaels and pushed the ends of the cake pops to make a giant pink ball. Really neat! I would order at least two per guest. They are just about one bitefull. If you display them in a way where people can just grab one it gives people the option of how many they want to eat.

  • I made cake pops for my daughter's graduation party last year. I think I planned on 3-4 per person, but we had a cake and cookies as well. I had a lot left because while we wanted RSVP's, there were a lot of people who came for brief periods since it was an open house.

I agree with the prior posters, cake pops are not a true substitute for cake or a more filling dessert. If you have them, add other things as well, and have about 3-4 per person.
  • Thanks everyone. We were thinking about 3 per person. We are having other desserts as well, including a homemade ice cream cake from my hometown ice cream shop. That was a dealbreaker for me: no ice cream cake, no engagement ring!
