1. What name/patron did you take at Confirmation?
Joan of Arc

2. Why did you choose him/her?
She is the patron saint of France and France is obviously "my thing". I wear a medal necklace of her every day hoping it inspires me to be the best French teacher I can be.

3. How old were you when you were confirmed?
22

4. Anything else interesting about your confirmation you would like to share?
I was a late bloomer. Did every sacrament up through communion and then left the church when my parents left. When I met H (who has been Catholic his whole life) I started goingt o church with him. It literally felt like I had come "home". I soon after decided to start the RCIA process. I'm so glad I did it

1. St. Therese of Lisieux

2. I actually knew very little about her when I made the choice. She's French. One of her patronages is the loss of parents, and since I lost my mom at a young age, it seemed like a good fit. Since then, I've come to learn how incredible she really is, and how blessed that choice was.

3. I'm a convert, so I was 24 when I received both Confirmation and First Eucharist.

4. I was confirmed in November. When I was trying to choose an outfit, my sponsor/bff dug through my closet and found a white skirt and blazer that was seasonally "wrong," but thought I should wear white for my First Holy Communion. I went along with it, and my Catholic grandma who was there told me how tickled she was that I was "the only one up there who wore white" like I should. I'm so glad I made the decision to go with the white.

2. Chose her because she is the patron saint of music and at the time I played 4 instruments.

3. 8th grade, so I think 14

4. Nothing special. I had a pretty traditional Catholic upbringing, went to Catholic school with the same 30 kids pre-school through 8th grade. Lol

1. Mary Magdalene

2. I just thought she was cool. I liked how she saw Jesus right after he was risen.

3. 7th grade. 12

4. The bishop "called me out" and asked me a question during his homily. (Beforehand, he had walked down the line we were standing in waiting to process in and gotten some of our first names, so he knew who to call on!) I was SO nervous. I don't even remember what the question was...but I think it was pretty simply and I *think* I mumbled out something correct! (We all knew in advance that he was "known" for doing that.)

I love it Kristan. I remember we had to give a similar lecture to kids before their 8th grade graduation when I taught 8th grade. I also had kids whine to me about the dress code everywhere I've ever taught (thinking I was young and cool), only to find out that I'd stick them in uniforms, so I was quickly labeled as young and not-actually-that-cool (I also required them to do their work, crazy as that sounds!).

What's amazing to me is that parents let their kids dress the way they do. I cannot imagine ever wearing some of the clothes kids come up with . . . much less wearing them in front of my parents! And to think of wearing it for Confirmation! Aye!

1. I, too, chose St. Cecilia. 2. I was a huge music nerd at the time. Still am, but I've toned it down. 3. 9th grade, so 15 years old. 4. Our confirmation was at the cathedral of St. Paul which is beautiful. There were a lot of teens getting confirmed that evening, though, so I remember it being a really long time and, as a 15 year old, I most certainly was bored. Ah, youth.

1. St. Madeleine Sophie Barat
2. This is bad, but...I chose her because her picture was pretty, and I liked her name. I figured "heck, they're saints...they're all good people. So I'll choose the prettiest girl with the prettiest name." My favorite saint was already my first name, and I didn't want to repeat it, so I went with Madeleine Sophie!
3. 13, 8tht grade
4. We were all lined up, waiting to process into the church for confirmation, when our RE director announced that the bishop had cancelled on us. We had to wait -- in line, standing -- for a long time (probably an hour or so) before they were able to find anothe bishop to come do the confirmation. It was pretty frustrating. Oh, and they made us line up in alphabetical order, and I was the only girl in about 4 pews somehow...my friends were all together, and I had to stand there all bored while the boys were all annoying 8th grade boys. Miserable!

2. I picked Bl. Diana d' Andalo mostly because when I was confirmed we were encouraged to use our middle name if it was also a saints name.
3. 8th Grade, I think I was just shy of 14.
4. I don't remember anything unique or special about my confirmation.

1. St. Thomas Aquinas.

2. I converted to Catholicism while attending the university of st. thomas, and I kind of felt like he was probably responsible both for helping me convert (the entire concept of natural law had an incredible influence on me) and helping me get through my degrees. I was confirmed a month before graduation.

3. 22 years old... April 2009

4. Nothing too interesting, except that FI was confirmed at the same time. I'm always glad we went through it together.

1. What name/patron did you take at Confirmation?

St. Martha

2. Why did you choose him/her?
I had a hard time choosing a saint... I wanted a patron of teachers, but the only ones I could find at the time were guys. I didn't really have a problem with choosing a male, but other people I told made such a big deal of it I decided to look for someone else. I went with Martha because of her relationship with Christ and because she is the patron of cooks, and I love cooking.

3. How old were you when you were confirmed?
25.

4. Anything else interesting about your confirmation you would like to share?

I don't think anything particularly special happened... it was a REALLY stormy night and I remember wondering what would happen if the weather got severe.

1. What name/patron did you take at Confirmation? St. Teresa

2. Why did you choose him/her? She taught children and I have a passion for teaching children. She was also such an inspiration for me, coming from nothing and overcoming so many obstacles.

3. How old were you when you were confirmed? 26

4. Anything else interesting about your confirmation you would like to share? I remember being really nervous but also feeling the Holy Spirit's presence. Also, DH proposed to me after I was confirmed on the altar, so that was really special, too.

My confirmation name was Anstasia

2. Why did you choose him/her?
My mom wanted me to do Mary or something simple, so being rebellious I found one of the most off beat names possible and used that for my confirmation name

4. Anything else interesting about your confirmation you would like to share?
My confirmation class had a lot of simple common names like Mary, Michael, Daniel ect. They lined the girls in one line in height order and the did the same with the boys. I was the shortest so they called up the shortest boy and the shortest girl first to receive confirmation and they called us up by our confirmation name, so the first names called in our class were Anastasia and Aloysius. We both chose such off beat names there were giggles from the rest of our class.

20. When in the classes at 17, I felt forced and pressured. I felt the other students were joking around too much in the classes and it really clouded my spritual journey. I "dropped out" of the classes 2 weeks in. So I waited a few years and prayed for guidance. Thankfully, it came!

4. Anything else interesting about your confirmation you would like to share?

I was part of my parish's first adult class specifically for those who had not received confirmation only. I also feel strange that we weren't asked to choose a Saint's name. Hmmm.

Maybe it has to do with you being baptized Catholic? Presumably you have a baptismal saint, right? Maybe at some churches they don't see it as necessary to pick another saint for confirmation. Just guessing here.

I meant the name of a saint that parents would give their child when they're born, but I guess not all parents do that either now that I think about it, so scratch what I said.

I generally lurk here and don't post, but I thought I'd weigh in on this one.

1. Mary

2. It was the name of my grandmother, who had passed away the year before. My middle name is Elizabeth, and I liked the symmetry of having Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, and the Blessed Mother in my name.

3. I was in 8th grade, so I don't know, 13? 14? March 1995...I'd've been 13, I guess.

4. The bishop was really heavy-handed with the oil, and didn't push the girls' bangs (this was 1995; we ALL had heavy bangs) out of the way, so most of the oil ended up in my hair, which was kind of gross.

2. Why did you choose him/her? Patron Saint of Musicians; my father is a musician and I have always been deeply involved in music

4. Anything else interesting about your confirmation you would like to share? Looking back, the dress I was wearing was WAY too short; but it was summer, in style, and acceptable in our parish; I just look at the pictures and think "mom, why did you let me wear that short little thing!?"

Saint Anne

2. Why did you choose him/her?

She was the mother of Mary and is patron saint of mothers... at the time I felt that I'd probably be called to marriage, so it seemed the logical choice to me! I was pretty distracted with schoolwork at the time and wasn't too engaged in my confirmation classes... so didn't put very much energy into researching my confirmation saint as I probably should have! If I were being confirmed now, I'd probably choose a different saint.

3. How old were you when you were confirmed?

15 in 10th grade!

4. Anything else interesting about your confirmation you would like to share?

I got confirmed at the same place as TeaforMe, coincidentally, and was married there 11 years after my confirmation
