open bar vs cash bar

I am planning on having an open bar during the cocktail hour then it will be a cash bar for the reception.

Question is:

Should i have an open bar throughout

    yes.  If you can't afford the full bar the entire time, trying do only wine and beer for the entire time.






    What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    Yes; host the bar throughout. As others said, you can limit the choices to beer and wine to save money. Good luck!
