HELP! Reception hall/date trouble!

Ladies, I need your help!  I may have to push my wedding back and my original venue is not available on the day that I'm picking (the postponed/new date).  HELP!  It is like my mind just went blank.  Which reception halls impressed you?  I'm looking for something with a cool vibe, somewhere not too far from the French Quarter.  I don't want a hall or anything like that in Metairie/Kenner.  I was thinking about Race and Religious...but has anyone been there yet?  Benachi Home is too small (having about 250-300 guests).  Latrobe's is too pricey.  I checked out Pat O's on the River, but I don't know.  Has anyone been there?  Riverview room is booked.  How about the House of Blues...anybody been there for a wedding?  Thoughts and opinions, suggestions and experience, please!!  Thank you, ladies.

Re: HELP! Reception hall/date trouble!

  • Not sure what your original date it, but have you thought about a different day of the week, like a Thursday or Friday? We had the same issue, as the weekend we picked was booked on Saturday so we decided on Friday instead (which has worked out great for a number of reasons). Our reception is at Rosy's Jazz Hall on Tchoup and Valence St and i'm really excited for it! They hold up to 300-350 I think. We also had friends that had their reception at Muriel's in Jackson Square. It was pretty awesome too, but not sure how many people they hold. They both had a similar feel with the old time, brick walls, style building as Race and Religious.

I think your wedding is too big for Race and Religious.  You should check out the New Orleans Board of Trade.  I had about 300 people there for my wedding.  I also considered the Foundry and Chicory.

The Federal Ballroom is also nice, but I think it is a little small.
  • Check out the Wax Museum too, I can't remember what their max is but I think it's in that range?
  • The Cannery is really cool and just a streetcar ride from the quarter (and VERY reasonably priced).  I agree that you should look into the Foundry and the Chicory. Also check out the Board of Trade.
  • Federal Ballroom is not too small. We have 300 guests there.
  • I am having a 300 person wedding at Antoines. May want to check them out?

  • I'm having my reception at Pat O's. They have been GREAT to work with. I haven't been to any weddings there, but my Mom has and she said the food is great, the drinks are great, and the atmosphere/look of the place is great.

You don't have to do a ton to decorate because the package includes flowers for the buffet and you have GORGEOUS views of the river through the whole place.

    Good luck!

  • I hear that the Federal Ballroom is pretty nice for a larger sized wedding.
