Dropping like flies

I'm tempted to change the theme of my wedding from a travel theme to a "dropping like flies" theme.  First it was a BM, then it was 3 GMs and now it's guests, lol.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not actually upset about any of this.  The BM will still be there as a guest but couldn't afford the dress, etc.  One of the GMs is still planning to be there but isn't sure due to his crazy commercial pilot schedule.  All of the VIPs will be there with the exception of a couple of FI's aunts and uncles so it's mostly just amusing now :-)  Hey, it saves me money!

Re: Dropping like flies

  • I know what you mean! I just had someone from work tell me they got their weekends mixed up and won't be able to make it to the wedding on Saturday. Well hey thanks for letting me know after I already paid for you lol. OH WELL.

  • Yea, luckily I don't have to pay for equipment rentals and food until the week of the wedding.  I'm still sticking with 12 tables and gear for 125, even though we only need 11 tables and gear for 112 adults now.  A little extra space never hurt anyone and we budgeted for 15 tables and 150 people originally.  We definitely got lucky with the numbers game, hopefully that luck will continue through the very end of the wedding process!

  • I had 6 drop who were coming from out of the country. I still have to pay for there rentals (the chairs, etc) but luckily was able to get out of there meal, which was the most expensive part. I could have done without the extra table, centerpiece, linen, etc. but like you said, a little extra space is ok, and I'd much rather have found out today when I still could save the meal money than tomorrow when its too late to make any changes!

  • Don't get me started on that.  My old roommate just told me today she couldn't come.  It's a long story but it's due to work.  Ummmm, you've known about this for 14 months and have been practially jumping up and down excited for the last 14 months.

FI and I are very very disappointed.  She'll be missed, but we are grateful for everyone who can be there!

Oh yeah, paying for FI's cousin and the date he invited for himself, who decided not to come at all when he realized we had not invited him with a guest--even though we asked him to please come and bring his guest. I'm actually quite bitter about that one, because for starters, he's being spiteful, but I also found out that had we not invited this cousin, three other of FI's family members who declined would have attended.

Also paying for a date for my MOH, who has now decided she's not bringing a date. And another BM and her husband are on the rocks, so he might not come. That one I completely understand, but it still stinks that their plates are already paid for.

I managed to save two heads at the rehearsal dinner by inviting MOH's parents, who are in from out of town for the wedding, instead. So at least there's that.
  • After I posted this orginally, I had yet ANOTHER guest drop.  RIght now I find it amusing since I haven't totally paid for them.  I have one extra centerpiece/table for now and I could squish everyone down to 11 tables but having the extra wiggle room is nice so I'm not complaining.  Now I feel a lot more confident in case some people show up at the last minute.  Our caterer makes food for 10 extra people just in case that happens but hopefully we won't have the opposite problem where we pay for extra people who don't show.

FI is pretty confident that about 8 more people will drop and we'll have around 110 total for the wedding.  So far we have 111 adults and 7 kids, which is freakin amazing.  I also found out that the caterer is only charging us half for the vendor meals since they're not eating the cocktail hour food, which is also a bonus since there will be 12-13 of them there.  Apparently everyone needs an assistant but okay, sure, I don't care at this point.

FI is also pretty excited b/c I told him we might actually slide in AT or UNDER budget-dare to dream!!
  • Yep I know how you feel! First a BM then 3 GMironic. We have also had several guests that I have paid for already tell me they won't be making it. I just hope it doesn't seem too empty in such a large space since we went from 124 down to 90.
