Chair covers

Our hall has some really nasty old black chairs.  The cheapest we've found for chair covers was $3 a chair in our area which is out of our budget.  Our colors are lavender and ivory.  We are following a pretty tight small budget.  Our wedding is in August with an outdoor ceremony  overlooking a lake/golf course with the reception indoors immediately after.  Does anyone have a cheap idea to make the chairs look nice without breaking our budget?

Re: Chair covers

  •   Take minute and think about the last 3 weddings, you have been to.
Can you remember what  the chairs looked like????

If the answer is no. Rethink if you really want to spend the extra $....

    Just some food for thought.
  • Save your money for something that really affects the guests.  The color of the chairs is NOT one of those items.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • My dad almost keeled over and died when he found out what chair covers cost, lol. We are having 240 people so... for 240 chairs, that would be a lot of $$ just for silly lil chair covers. I agree, most people won't remember or care about chairs. I think you can better spend your money in other ways.

I'm not very crafty but if you really want them, maybe you can make them?

  • We aren't using chair covers but are using sashes for my daughter's wedding. These aren't expensive
  • I was having a hard time with this too! I went to school for Interior Design and hate the chairs that are at our venue. I've looked into renting chairs (cost est. $1000) and I don't love the chair covers. Everyone's responses above are right. I don't think anyone looks at the chairs, minus someone who is in the design business. I notice them right away. I think I need to just get over and spend my $$ elsewhere. Good Luck!
  • Looking back at the 1000 pictures taken by our photographer, 10 of them have pictures of chairs in them and that is only because we were doing table visits so people were still sitting down.

I hated our chairs at first as well.  They were black fold up chairs, but after doing some research and seeing that for me to rent chivari chairs it would cost me $8 per chair and I needed 260 chairs.  No way in hell was I going to spend that much on something so dumb.  The $1 fold up chairs worked just as well as the $8 chivari chairs would have.  And knowing how little amount of pictures the chairs were in I would have been peeved if I had spent a fortune on the pretty one's.

Save your money.  Be happy that they are black and not some hideous other color.  Black is a neutral and will fade into the background.

  • I ordered new ceremony chairs ($1.90 each) and chair covers for the reception (about $2.50 each).  I agree that most people won't notice, but our venue had plastic pool patio chiars for the ceremony and old old chairs that look like they were meant for a poker game for the reception.  I just couldn't deal with it.  We are having a small number of guests so it didn't turn out to be all that much money.  We get married in a couple of weeks, but I'm REALLY glad I ordered the extra chair and chair covers.. it means a lot to me.  I'm sure whatever you chose will be beautiful as it is your special day and really about you as a couple!
