I said YES to the very first DRESS - should I keep looking?

I've been engaged for a year and a half and have been putting dress shopping off.  Our date is 11/10 so I planned to start shopping around 3/10.  It's been more than a month since then and I still haven't made one single dress appointment yet.

Two nights ago I was up late shopping on 6pm.com.  I didn't know that they carry Badgley Mischka and found this ivory silk gown 40% off at $375:

My dress budget was $500 and I expected to shop at David's. I really LOVED the idea of having a designer gown, they only had one in my size, and it could be returned within 30 days... so I took a chance and ordered it.

It arrived today and it needs to be hemmed and pressed but it fits me like a glove.  It's so comfortable, flatters my figure, and I absolutely love it.

Opinions?  It's the only dress I've tried on.  Should I go try on a few other dresses just to be sure it's "the one" or stop shopping now before I even start?  I've heard advice that once you find the dress you should stop looking. Thanks in advance!

  • Do you love the way you look and feel in the dress? If so, stop looking.  If you don't, then keep looking, but do it soon so you can return the dress.

And do NOT get hung up on designer names.  Unless you were going for a Lazaro or Pnina, I honestly wouldn't worry about what's on the label.  yes, some designer gowns are better quality than DB, but DB has some amazing dresses for less than $500.00.

Yes, once you find "the dress", you SHOULD stop looking. But, since you never really looked, I would say try to get an appointment at Davids this weekend and just go and try on a bunch of dresses and see if you like the way they feel or look better than this one.

Personally, I think the dress is pretty.  Very simple, not knock your socks off, but pretty.  If that was the style you were going for, then keep it.  If you only bought it because it was an inexpensive BM, then I would look, and quickly.
  • It's super pretty, and you seem to LOVE it.  However, I would make an appt at David's Bridal soon just to try on other dresses to compare.  After trying on other dresses, you may be more confident about your decision.
  • Love the dress. Thing it is classic and elegant--if you're feeling unsure make an appt. at David's just to check out other options but leave yourself enough time to send the dress back if you find something you like better at David's. If you try on a few at David's and keep comparing back to the dress you currently have leave and don't look back.

Thank you for the advice all! I put the dress on again and I really do love it.  I wanted a simple, elegant dress and found a great one plus it was under budget.  I'm going to quit while I'm ahead!  I was just second guessing myself because it was so easy.  I've never heard of a bride-to-be only trying on one dress.

    I found my dress!

You're definitely not alone!! I never went dress shopping and found my dress in a similar way that you did! It was the first and only one that I ordered.

    Congrats!
  • If you love the dress then why keep looking? Congrats on finding your dress at an awesome price!
  • The dress is gorgeous!! I'm in your boat, I bought this jcrew dress that kept grabbing my eye, ordered it online, it arrived yesterday and I LOVE it! There's nothing wrong with continuing to look around, but you already have a dress that fits you and your budget perfectly so don't put too much effort into it.
  • stop shopping!!! I just became overwhelmed and confused the more I looked. Once I found mine I just knew it was the one. Sounds like you feel that way about this dress. It doesnt matter if its the first dress you tried or the 100th... its about how you feel!

Congratulations! I also didn't want a big, poufy ballgown, so I think your dress is beautiful. FWIW, I ended up buying the first dress I saw in person. I had looked online, but that was my first bridal appointment. I first saw it last July, but I didn't end up actually purchasing it until this past December. I also felt like I needed to keep looking and also because it wasn't quite what I had envisioned myself in. In the end, it is the dress I'm meant to have - it's beautiful and I feel beautiful in it. That's what it's all about. I should have gone with my gut!
