October 2013 Weddings

October 13 wedding..NOTHING PLANNED YET!

My fiance and I are planning a Halloween wedding.  We are hoping to keep it small and have checked out local VFWs to keep the price down.  Although I did go dress shopping last week, we have not officially booked or planned anything yet. I hear of many people that have planned weddings in three months, but others that plan it for 3 years.  What do you think?  Any advice is appreciated :)

Re: October 13 wedding..NOTHING PLANNED YET!

  • Planning a wedding in less than a year can be tricky, but it's definitely managable. However, you may not get your first choice in certain vendors. My sister planned her wedding for December of last year but ended up having to move it up to October at the last minute. She had to replan her entire wedding in less than two months. It wasn't the wedding she had in mind, but it was still amazing in every aspect.
You still have about six months which should be plenty of time. I would suggest booking your different vendors as soon as you find ones you like seeing as October is a pretty busy month for weddings.
Good luck and keep us posted! :)

  • Of course you can plan a wedding in 6 months.  It all depends on what's important to you and your fiance.

We request new posters fill out the intro so we can get to know you a little better.  Fill us in on your details (where, how many guests, what you have started and what you need) and we can help guide. Most of the women here are further along but as long as you have the essentials (two people, a location and an officiant) anything else you wish to include can be done.   You will really want to start with major vendors.  Get a location and the person you want to marry you.  Then think about a photographer, food, a DJ or whatever else you want in order of importances.  Utilize your local boards (on the menu to the left) and get some recs from them about vendors if you need help.

The women on this board are very helpful and always willing to step in with good advice and lots and lots of ideas.

Welcome to the board and happy planning!

  • We are getting married then also. We are having a super small ceremony though. And now we are considering moving it up to August. We are either crazy or....nope, crazy.
  • Thanks for your advice and support!!  We are actually planning a Halloween costume reception!  I am trying to brainstorm costumes for my fiance and I because I would like to wear a wedding gown...and not ruin it.  For example, last week I tried on a red and white gown and thought I could easily transform into the Queen of Hearts - Mad Hatter.  I also tried on a gown that was like Belle from Beauty and the Beast :)  Since Oz wore a suit with a top hat we were also thinking of Oz and the Good witch of the north (she wore a white gown.)

I have called around and every place is so pricey! You are right!  So far the local VFW is inexpensive and available.  I also contacted a Holiday Inn which was priced well, but they don't do ceremonies there.  We are trying to keep it "as simple" and fun as possible.  I tend to stress out easily so we figured costumes would lighten the formality :)  We are thinking around 50-60 people in the Hudson Valley, NY.
  • You will be able to put it together, but there might be some periods where you will just want to scream - but that is to be expected.

If the local VFW is available at a good price, then go for it! I went to a wedding on Halloween where it was a formal wedding, but then in the middle of the reception, they had costumes, masks and decorations for all the guests. It was pretty neat.

Djs, photographers, videographers and vendors like that will book the quickest. Try to find a caterer as well. You can do it!

  • PS Lowelugo, where's your intro post? I'd love to hear more about you! :)
  • Thanks!  I am so new to this... not too sure what an intro post is and where to post it :)
