Vet or wait?

I know you all are animal people, and FI and I are disagreeing, so I'd like your opinions...

I just noticed that the top of my pup's nose is all red and raw. I didn't notice it yesterday. I suspect he might have rubbed it on his bed, bowl, or crate (when I came home today the tray under the crate was displaced, so I know he was up to something). Since I'm a worrier though, I'm also afraid it could be some kind of fast-growing infection that sprung up overnight. (FWIW, it doesn't seem to be hurting him). I want to call the vet tomorrow, FI says we should wait a couple days and see if it gets better. WWYD?

I would probably clean it with peroxide and see how it is in the morning. If you can get to petsmart or something, and grab an ecollar, that wouldn't be a bad idea.

I'd check to see if there are changes over night, and call the vet in the morning to discuss it with you over the phone. If your vet is really busy, make an appointment for a few days out- if you decide it's nothing, cancel the appointment.

I echo PPs. Sometimes if I get really concerned, I'll call the vet for direction and they advise me over the phone. Mine has been honest and has told me we're fine not to come in a number of times unless.... x y z symptoms occurr and what to check for.

Ditto PP. Pax (my hedgehog) busted up his nose over the summer. I called a vet and she said to clean it with peroxide and put neosporin on it. She said only come in if it got infected or if he seemed in distress.

It has saved us a ton in vet bills and needless stress on the cats, who HATE going anywhere.

I hear you on that Stage. FI's cat freaked out so bad when we last took him to the vet that he broke 3 of his claws and scratched his nose trying to break out of the carrier. When we moved in December, FI had to put him in a Rubbermaid container and hold it in his lap with the lid cracked talking to him to keep him calm (it was only a 5 minute drive), but a least he didn't hurt himself. Have you found your cats got worse with going places as they got older?

I've also been told neosporin for cats, would double check with the vet if it's ok for dogs though.
