Weird wedding traditions

So, I was reading/lurking over on the E board, and there was a link to an article on Elizabeth Banks' website. That article had a link to this:

I think I just spent the last several minutes looking like I'm trying to catch flies in my mouth.

Re: Weird wedding traditions

  • Wow. Just wow. I think 7 and 10 are probably the strangest ones!

Though I would LOVE to see number 10 in action! Watching the bride's family try to steal the groom's shoes and the groom's family try to protect the shoes...I would be laughing so hard the whole time.

Danish Wedding tradition cut off the toe of the groom's sock and present it to the bride/wife and have her sew it back together.  I have pictures of this happening at my wedding along with me holding the sock after they cut it off at the end of our first dance.  Yeah.... I didn't even know about this till it was over.  I was wondering why his mail cousins were holding onto him and why his sister had a pair of scissors.

ETA: Hubby's family also wrote a wedding song that they got all the guests to sing along with them.  It was here that they revealed that I crashed my motorcycle to which my family didn't even know I had one.  Crazy Danes!  Also #17 was done at our wedding as welll.

The hand off to me, lol!

All the female guests (my mom) reapplied their lipstick and gave Danish Man a kiss and even some male guests got in on it, running up and kissing Danish Man.

The only notable one for me was my younger brother who ran up and slobbered on me when Danish Man got out of his seat.  It was pretty funny as I didn't know of this tradition and so when Hubs got up and left I heard a wild cry coming from the back and I look up to see his crazy cousin running up waving his arms and he kissed me on my cheek and ran off and it kept coming with all the other mail guests.

Bahahahahaha! The only Mexican tradition that I know of is the the rope/knot that they lay over the couple 'tying' them together.

  • Some of those are... scary. Wow.

Lyn, that's hysterical! How did your family react to the motorcycle story? How did they think you guys met?

My siblings kind of knew, the song just confirmed it for them.  My parents THANK GOD weren't really listening nor do they have a great grasp on the English language.  So I got away with that.   My family just thinks Danish Man and I met through friends.
