Gifts not received at shower etiquette

At our shower, I had 2 people bring website printouts of what they intended to send us (the items weren't available at the store so they ordered them). I have no idea when the items will arrive. For all I know, they are on backorder until June. Should I send a thank you card now or when the items arrive?

    I would probably send one for attending the shower and with a line "I look forward to getting X in the mail!" Then I'd do an informal email/call when the item came in.

    At my shower, one of my friends hadn't received the gift she ordered for me in the mail yet, so she gave me a candy necklace and a half-eaten PBJ with some chips in a Disney Princess ziploc bag. It was hilarious, so I'm going to send her a thank you note for those "gifts" and then another for when the real gift comes. :D

    My best friends family got us a beautiful wine bar for my bridal shower-- it was being shipped to me so the thank you was still thanking them for the gift and that I could not wait to get it.  when it arrived later that week I called my friend (she works with her mom and sister so they were together when I called her). No one was offended that I sent a card before actually having the gift in my poccession.

    Whether or not you send a thank you for coming to the shower card, make sure you send a card when the gift actually arrives, or the gift giver might think it got lost in shipping!
