Bridesmaid dress wrong color?

I'm planning my wedding long distance and my bridesmaids are scattered across the country.  Due to time restraints and  the distance I had each of the girls order their own dresses.  All I asked was they order from Alfred Angelo, use chiffon fabric and the color be Tea Rose.  One of the bridesmaid's dress came in the other day. Have I lost my mind or is this what Tea Rose really comes out as??

Re: Bridesmaid dress wrong color?

  • Did you check a swatch beforehand? I can't speak for the specific color but I also used AA for the BMs and found all of the colors to be very different in person. I know it's disappointing when things aren't what you expected, though. Good luck, I'm sure everyone will still look lovely!
  • I just did some googling...it looks VERY different on the AA website, but similar in some real wedding photos that are out there. You aren't crazy.
  • You're not crazy. I've been in four (yes, four) weddings that have used AA dresses. In not one of those weddings did the dress look in person AT ALL like it looked online. Not one. The chiffon overlay will look different than the satin in the same color, just because of the difference in the textile, but overall, I found that the online AA colors weren't at all true to IRL. The color of your BMs is still really pretty, though, even though I know it's not exactly what you wanted.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • I used AA dresses in my wedding in the Pistachio color.  On line it looks like a light green in person it is more of a lime/bright green.  So the colors online do not reflect the colors in person.

I know you may have wanted a lighter pink but the color the dress is is still very pretty and will probably compliment your BMs skin tone better then the light pink.  To bring in the color that the dresses were supposed to be (according to the online color) have the BMs carry bouquets of light pink flowers.

It will all work out so don't stress too much.

  • Not knowing what the 'real' color was supposed to be, I think this color is lovely.
  • It will all be fine.  It can be frustrating for color-coodinating purposes, but this color is beautiful!  I understrand why you're disappointed though, this color looks nothing like what's on their website.  If it makes you feel better, I like this one better!
  • I know for the AA swatches, it depends on if you're doing silk, satin, etc.  This is why I asked for swatches from my gown specifically so I could compare it later.

Could she take the dress to an AA store and compare it to a swatch with a receipt that shows she ordered a specific color?

I personally think it's very pretty.  Is it similar in color to your other BM dresses that they have in hand?

Sorry your disappointment in the "real color" its still a very nice color and you can still use different shades of pinks in your flowers.
  • I had looked at color swatches beforehand which is how I ended up going with the Tea Rose and why I was kind of shocked to see this dress. Another bridesmaids dress should be coming in soon, so we'll see how that one turns out!

I'm at the point where how the wedding turns out, is how it turns out. If that means varying shades of pink for bridesmaids dresses... well, I'm sure they'll all look lovely :)

I feel weird clapping for you as my wedding hasn't come yet, but I lurk around here enough to just want to applaud this attitude until kingdom come. Of course we all want our days to be "special" and "perfect," but I highly applaud your maturity, outlook, and attitude!
