Three is the magic number.

I will actually have three wedding dresses. One that I will get married in... one that I will have the ceremony in (that one's is for my eyes only until that big day)... and one to party in for my reception.  Anyone else doing the ole switch-a-roo?

Re: Three is the magic number.

  • what do you mean "one to be married in and one for the ceremony"? they should be one in the same. If you are bragging about having 3 wedding dresses for a PPD you are going to get A LOT of flack and this will not go over well here. You should lurk.

I don't understand. Aren't "get married in" and "have the ceremony in" the same event?
  • I had considered getting a reception dress but once I got my dress in, I decided I wouldn't want to change. I understand the idea behind it though.

Unless you're wearing two dresses at once, this isn't possible.  Get married in = have the ceremony in.

  • yeah, I. Want to know why three? The ceremony is when you get married..? I agree with everyone else. 3 seems like overkill and screams "I'm an attention seeking brat" in my opinion.

[QUOTE]Three wedding dresses.  I am going to be very blunt and direct.  This idea is so full of attention-seeking, prima donna attitude, it is ridiculous.  If you have that much money, donate to charity for a good cause. If you are having two weddings, then this is outrageous AND IMPOSSIBLE.  You can only be married once unless you divorce your husband between ceremonies. There are so many brides that save their pennies to buy just one beautiful wedding gown for their wedding.  It is hard to understand why you think you should have three.  Just because you can afford it, doesn't mean that it is in good taste to flaunt your extravagance.

I agree with PPs. I loved my dress too much to want to take it off. I get some people want a second dress for the reception if their ceremony dress is big, heavy, can't dance in it, etc, but THREE? I see no point. And please come back and clarifiy how "ceremony" and "getting married" are not the same event b/c I strongly suspect you're planning on getting married by the JOP and then having a do-over, which is not cool.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    Ditto this!
  • I had a roommate in college who had never heard of anyone having less than three dresses.  One for the ceremony, one for the reception, and one just in case something happened to the other two.  I side eyed that idea as much as she side eyed the fact that I'd never heard of anyone having more than one dress.  If it makes you happy, fine, but definitely not a necessity or all that common.
  • I may be wrong all together on this, but this is my theory on why she has a dress she gets married in and a dress for the ceremony.  She is having a cruise ship wedding.  I'm wondering if she has a dress she gets married in because they will JOP prior to the cruise ship wedding.

OP - if I am off base feel free to tear me up.

Bingo! Because we are having cruise ship wedding, we can't get the Saturday we want. So we will have our JOP union the day before we depart, and the ceremony on the ship is for our friends and fam... We are only getting married once the ship ceremony is called a devotion ceremony and is symbolic. Didn't mean to cause a fuss and wasn't flaunting anything as all three dress combined come in under two grand. So sorry if I sounded like I was bragging, but it's more by design than by desire.
  • I love my gown wayyyy too much! If I could wear it more than once I would!

No.  I paid alot of money for my dress and loved it too much to take it off and put on another dress.  I also find more than one dress AWish.

  • I know I'll be having 2 dresses, one for the ceremony/pictures and then one for the reception.

TMI but... I sweat profusely... I've always been this way, it's pretty gross and because I want to dance at my reception, I'll be changing into a shorter dress that won't weigh 20 pounds.
Already given the fact that it will be August and about 80 degrees (I sweat at 60 degrees) I just want to be comfortable but I also want a big fluffy wedding dress :)
  •  My one dress was everything I had ever dreamed of since childhood about a wedding dress.  The only way that thing was coming off was when the party was over and done.  Not a second sooner.    Yes it had a ridiculous train, yes it weighed 9 million pounds, yes I almost fell in the bathroom..... but it was worth every second!
