Should I worry?

Hello all!

Just picked up my wedding gown from David's in the special storage bag and the whole shebang but because my wedding is not until December should I worry about anything happening to it?  I know "don't play with it" or "don't put it anywhere it may be ruined by flooding, pets, kids, etc" but the bag will keep anything else from happening, like discoloring right?  I've also heard about laying it flat for some time to keep off the stress of it hanging for another 7 months.  Is this something I should do?  Sorry for spazzing!

    I've heard to lay it flat, but mine was on a hanger and it was fine. Mine was just in a plastic bag and had no discoloration, but you should keep it out of the sunlight.

    You can ask the Bridal Store to store it for you until your fitting process begins.  This is a Service that most shops provide at no cost, don't let them (Davids)  bully you into taking it home!

    They just dont want the responsibility of keeping it there or don't want to have to see you come in and visit the dress because they won't make commission on a dress alredy purchased.

    Unless you feel it is safer at home.  Just my opinion!

    I bought mine off the rack about a year out from the wedding and left it hanging in my closet the entire time. It was fine.

    The merits of storing a dress flat will come into play only if your dress has a design that is especially bottom-heavy.  A light weight, less heavy mateial, with a skirt that is less full, won't stretch or become misshapen the way a heavy dress with thick lining, a full skirt, a long train, etc. might.  So, store it flat if your dress is 'pouffy' - or if it's lace, crocheted, knit fabric - or both.

    Breathable bad, lay flat away from any smells if your burn incense in the bedroom, don't store the dress in there. If you or anyone in your house smokes, store it elsewhere. Cigarette smoke can yellow your dress, even through closet doors.
