DJ in Middletown area

Hey everyone,

We're looking for an affordable but fun DJ for our wedding in the Middletown area.  Some of the people we've checked out recently seemed to be way too high, but maybe that's the 'going rate' these days?  What's a "typical" fee for DJ's?  And, are you supposed to add tip to that price as well typically?

Re: DJ in Middletown area

  • We went with Party Pleasers, and although our wedding was in Cincinnati, they also serve the Dayton area as well.  We really liked our DJ, his name was Jeff Clarke.

I think it was a little over $1k and we did tip.

  • We are using Ryan Lehmkuhl. His pricing starts at $600. From what we found the average is typically starts at $800 and up.

  • I guess we had 'low' expectations just assuming it would only be around $500 or so.  Well, I'm guessing there are DJ's for that price range but probably not the ones we would be wanting to make it a fun night.  We've gone to too many weddings with bad DJ's so I know how important they can be.  Looks like we might need to do some budget adjustments to make it work :)
  • With Party Pleasers are you able to pick your specific DJ?  Or are you just assigned one?  How does that work?

You can pick from a list of regular DJs and master DJs (full-time DJs with lots of years of experience).  You have to pay extra for a master DJ, but people on this board had great experiences with just a regular DJ.  Just call them, they'll explain everything.  (Jeff Clarke happened to be a master DJ.)

  • Ok that sounds really good.  Thanks so much!  I think it would be worth "trimming" in other areas to have a good DJ at our reception.
  • Do you tip a certain percentage to the DJ or is it usually just like $100 or something?

You won't be disappointed by going with Party Pleasers, I've heard only good things about them on this board.  They proved to be correct at my wedding, too.  We had a Vietnamese + American wedding so there were language and cultural barriers, but they still did great.

I don't remember how much we tipped but it might have been $100.  Here's a guide for all tipping including wedding vendors:

  • Thanks for the tipping guide.  That will be incredibly helpful!  We don't want to tip people if it's not customary (I know that might sound harsh, but we don't have a ton of extra money floating around) but also don't want to shortchange vendors that traditionally get tipped.

And jentaberson thanks for the tip about Midwest Sound as well.  We will check into them!
  • It was nice knowing we got a senior DJ and didn't have to pay extra.
  • Here's a great link about wedding DJs http://yourweddingdj.blogspot.com/2012/06/wedding-facts.html

I know a lot of people who chose Party Pleasers as their DJ and loved what they had to offer :) Great company and their reviews show it
