  I don't think it really matters. If they both find dresses that happen to be the same length, great. If not, no big deal. The most important part is that they feel comfortable and beautiful on your big day.

  it doesn't matter. they should wear whatever they are individually comfortable in.

  Doesn't matter in the least.  They should each independently purchase a dress that fits the formality of the wedding AND makes them feel beautiful and comfortable.

  My MIL was in a skirt that came to just above her ankles.  My mom was in a dress that was a couple inches below the knees.  In other words, no, it doesn't matter.
