Happy about flying instead of driving

I was dreading the beginning and end of our honeymoon. FI wanted to drive 23 hours each way  without stops from NH to FL because he thought we were saving money and that it would be fun. Ugh.

It would've cost us $550-600 in fuel to drive, plus oil change, plus hotel stays.

I was able to use some mileage I had to get round trip tickets for both of us for $200 (total) and I found a rental car for $400 (total).... so it's now cheaper to fly!

He finally agreed to flying and that means I get to add another day to our honeymoon.

Deleriously happy and relieved right now.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

  • I love road trips, but the drive home is always the worst.  On the way there, you're all excited.  On the way home, you're exhausted and just want to hurry up and be home in your own bed again.

FI and I were considering driving to LA to save money, but I'm so glad we're not.  A 3.5 hour plane trip sounds a lot better to me right now than a 25 hour car trip!

I'll do it on a vacation....I don't want to do it for my honeymoon...not on my wedding night!

  • I hate road trips. I take the train.

  • We've done the New England to Florida drive a couple times now. I am fearful of flying- I get motion sickness and am always terrified something will go wrong- so I much much prefer the drive.

But yay that you found a way to work out what you wanted for a cheaper cost!
  • Congrats, Muppet!  We were faced with the same dilemma, and I put my foot down.  Hells to the no I was not spending an entire 24 hours of my honeymoon sitting in a cramped car, bored out of my mind.

We flew, and it was so exciting.  We wore "just married" hats and shirt to the airport, and got everyone grinning at us.  We also spent the entire plane ride holding hands and giggled like idiots while calling each other 'husband' and 'wife'.
