Hair Vent

Hello all,

My name is Amesha and this is my first post on this forum. I thought it would be appropriate to let my frustration out here.

So I live in Kansas City, MO but I will be getting married in Miami, FL this October. I don't know if there is anything more difficult when planning a destination wedding, then finding a hair stylist that you can trust. I am extremely picky about my hair so this task was even more daunting.

Well I came across a really good stylist through reviews from The Knot and Wedding Wire. Her portfolio even had the exact style that I am envisioning; this made the salon even more appealing. I reached out to the salon via email, as instructed through the website, letting them know that I was interested in getting more info and the my wedding is in October, but I was planning a visit to Miami in June to do my tastings and meet with my vendors so I would be able to set up a hair trial then.  I get a pretty generic email back listing all of their pricing and fees, and asking my actual wedding date. The prices I was given were all for their traveling services, which I know is the most common thing for weddings. However I am the only person getting my hair done professionally so there is no need for me to pay for 4hrs of hair service. And I read on their site that they do so hair out of the salon so I would have no problem doing this as the salon is only 30 minutes away from where everything is happening.  So I send an email back letting them know when my wedding is and that I will be the only one needing my hair done and that I would prefer coming to the salon because there is no need for the traveling services for my particular wedding. Also, keep in mind that my wedding is on a Friday night so not a Saturday when most weddings are.

The response I got back was very dissapointing. It was almost like, since I am not needing the full traveling services, they didn't want to accomodate me. Here is what it said " If you or your bridal party decide to use us the minimum four hour plus travel would be $350."

How freaking rude, they didn't even want to offer me the in salon services that are advertised right on their website. Needless to say, I am now on the hunt for another stylist.... Grrrr......

Re: Hair Vent

  • I would call and ask them directly. "I saw on your website you have in-salon services available for weddings, and I will be getting married in October on a Friday. How much would you charge for one bridal updo in the salon, including a trial to be scheduled in June?"

If they're still difficult, then find someone else. Sorry you are having so much trouble.

They are rude and I wouldn't want to give them my business after that!  But, I do agree to call and ask if your heart is set on using them.

It sounds to me like they are very busy on Friday and Saturday (like most salons) and have decided that because so many brides are so high maintenance (not saying the OP is, just that many are) they don't find it worth their while to do anything less than 4 hours etc.  I have a make-up artist who is doing a hotel visit for my day-of make-up.  I only wanted to pay for make-up for myself, and when I asked her to reduce her standard rate (minimum 2 people, mimimum $400) she was not willing.  I think this is what happens with many vendors, when a person indicates they are a bride or groom.  My advice is to call back and indicate you just need a formal hairstyle for a formal event (business event or family reunion or whatever) and get them to do it in-salon, same style, for the rate of a salon visit.
