football themed wedding ideas?

I am having a dallas/eagles themed wedding reception, for each of our teams. our first date was superbowl sunday and we both like football.
I have some plans, but any ideas for keeping it classy and not tacky?

my decor is fall leaves
colors are burnt orange and navy - dresses are navy blue

yet the team colors are green/silver and blue/silver.

I have fishbowl like bowls with leaf imprints and floating candles for centerpiece on a brown charger plate, then fake leaves to scatter asround.  football scatter too??

Not sure if or how to add football onto centerpieces, tables

also- grooms cake will be dallas/eagles and a candy buffet around it with team color candies
on a green turf like carpet underneath.

  • If it's not too late, I would change the colours. IMO that would be the classiest way to integrate the teams into the wedding.

This isn't a birthday party...  The thought of a football theme makes me cringe.  Get a grooms cake for the rehearsal dinner or something that's football-oriented...  I don't see how you can keep this classy...

  • To maintain the elegance, I would limit the the football touches to the groom's cake and the candy display.   You could cover the candy table in a sliver table cloth and  add the football banners (pennants) to the edge of the candy display  Arrange the candy display so that one team's colors are on one side while the other team's colors are on the other side.

Candy and football are both fun items so it makes sense for them to go together
  • "Football" and "classy" don't go together.   As PPs suggest, limit the football theme to something that isn't the wedding itself.

</div><div>I have a friend who had some football-esque things but none of it was in the colors or decor. They gave a shout out to their team  with their hor dourves by including local game-day type foods presented in a way that matched the formality of the event. They were also introduced into the reception like a team entering the field. I believe their BP did also, although that's not something I would do or suggest, but that could just be me.

  • You can be introduced like a team and also use football players names/numbers as table numbers.

I'm not having a "theme" necessarily, but I am having bridal party intro like a basketball team and our table numbers will be named after players...so instead of traditional numbers, we will have:

    Table 33/Larry Bird
    Table 23/Jordan, etc
  • OP, I got married in Raven's stadium.  Of course we are huge football fans (Go Ravens!) but even though we got married in the stadium we kept the football theme to a minimum.  We used purple in our color scheme (was planning on doing that anyway, but really had no choice since the color is everwhere in the venue) and then for table numbers we used the players names and jersey numbers.  We also brought a football that I painted with our names and wedding date for pictures.

I think the easiest way to incorporate a theme such as football is with the colors.  You could also have escort cards that resemble football tickets.  Bring your jerseys and use them as your chair covers (just for the bride and groom).  Bring a football for pictures.  I also think that having the grooms cake and candy bar center around your favorite teams is a great idea as well.

[QUOTE]I'll second the "game-day" food idea- for the Iggles- also a fan- I've seen beautifully done cheesesteak egg rolls for a hot passed app as a tribute to Philly.  Perhaps soft pretzels around if the reception ran late into the night?  Make sure to highlight one of the local breweries' beers? I agree that I would change the colors and honestly, reduce the fall theme, it sounds like it's getting busy.  I'd do subtle touches.  My dad's cousin is a huge Penn State fan, their colors included the navy blue and white, PSU cufflinks for the guys, they had a little stuffed Nittany lion mascot for photo ops and some subtle but really nicely done little touches.

thanks for your thoughts.  I like the idea of adding some footbalesque things, but not overboard.

I still want the fall colors/leaves as decor. and will not decorate tables with anyting football

I am going to do the grroms cake and candy bar in the team colors
also I am waering a dallas garter as a surprise (something blue) and garter thrown on a football

    hors doevres idea is good!

I am planning on having a short video before intro- 2 min warning, just like in football- with maybe the fox nfl music, then intros-

    thanks!

that's your opinion and what if you don't want it to be CLASSY? but you both really love football and all of your friends do too? then why not celebrate in a way that is going to be a great big bash? the guest are ther to celebrate the joyous accation of your wedding  not to look at how fancy or classy it looks. if they are really good friends and family who know you both and know the things you both like then the classiness of the reception or wedding shouldn't MATTER
  • I am getting married on holloween, but our reception is going to be on Nov. 2nd. we are both huge football fans. but I am a Dolphins fan and he is a Raiders fan. So he will be Raiders attire: tie, hat with Raiders ribbon on it, and shoes while he will also be in a tuxedo. I am having Dolphin ribbon weaved through my dress at the rib line where it is opened with beads & pearls, my shoes will be heels with the dolphins emblum on them even the colors of my team, my hair peice will have pearls on the front, but have dolphins ribbon on the sides and long ribbon going down y back. the reception is based on tailgating and both of our team. "A HOUSE DEVIDED" yet "OUR HEARTS COMBINED" we have all decor in his team and my team. we are planning a tailgate partyfor our celebration. The most important thing on "The DAY" is that you are both happy and have lost of fun celebrating the jioning of your hearts!!!!!Ot doesn't matter the theme just as long as you both wnat the same thing!!! Then I say go with whats in your heart
