Travel Logistics

Now that we have passed the six months mark, FI and I were actually able to have time this past weekend to discuss wedding plans.  I am a little concerned for our guests on the logistics of traveling to ceremony and then on to the reception. I realize that I will also probably need to post this on the local board but I am hoping I can get some help with more of the general ideas.

About a third of our guests will be OOT and I have blocked a bunch of rooms at a hotel across the street from the reception location. The distance from the ceremony to reception area is a 20 minute drive.

The ceremony will be held in our church (where we met and are very active) in a suburb very close to Boston. There is only street parking that needs a permit. There is a subway line and cab stand very close to it. There is no parking lot in the immediate area that I can rent.

The reception will be in Boston Copley area which also has a subway line and lots of cabs in the area. I can possibly rent a parking lot.

The hotel will provide transportation ONLY those staying there to the ceremony and then to the reception. They can then walk back to the hotel right across the street.

Now question- Is it ok to have the hotel provide busing for only the guests staying there or do I need to provide something for everyone? There would be no place to leave their car at the ceremony site without getting a ticket.  How can I make this work for the other guests?  Should I just tell everyone the situation and let them figure it out?  I am truly stumped. I want everyone to have fun at our wedding but I would be heartbroken not to get married in our church.

I apologize for the length of this post.

Re: Travel Logistics

  • What about renting a parking lot near your reception site and then booking a shuttle to transport your local guests to and from the ceremony.  For your hotel guests they can use the hotel shuttle to get to the ceremony and then walk across the street to the reception once the shuttle brings them back.

Just make sure you provide all the logistic information and times the shuttle will leave in your invitations.

  • Those are great suggestions. It's funny, I have tunnel vision with this wedding so it's nice to find people who can look at the big picture objectively. Thank-you!

I hope I can find an available parking lot because our wedding is on a Saturday night in a very busy area of Boston.
  • After thinking about it, I don't think we can afford both a parking lot rental and busing.  It would have to be one or the other.
