Gift Regestry

How many places are appropriate to be registered at? and What type of things outside of kitchen are appropriate to register for??

Re: Gift Regestry

  • 2-3 is pretty standard.  You should try to have items over a broad price range, making sure to have enough in the under $50 and $25 and under ranges.

It is appropriate to register for things for the home--bathroom stuff (soap dish set, etc.), throw blankets/pillows, linens, etc.  I would stay away from things you will use up, like cleaning supplies and light bulbs.  I have seen furniture on registries before, and I wouldn't side eye one or two smaller pieces as long as they weren't too expensive.  You can also add some less traditional items, like board games and camping gear, as long as it's stuff you will use as a couple.
  • I would say 3 max. I personally think 2 is better.

As for what to register for, there is a sticky that has a list of literally everything you could think of.

We registered with 2 different places. I agree with jessicabessica that you want enough items priced under the $50 & $20 range, as not everyone can afford a more expensive gift. Not to say that they have to be expensive though either. That being said, there's nothing wrong with adding pricier items as well. Other than the kitchen, you can register for less expensive items like towels/face cloths, sheets and bedding, vases, candle holders, picture frames, throw pillows, nice coasters, etc. For more expensive items, you may want to add things like wall hangings or home decor items, lamps, laundry hampers, a vacuum or dust buster, furniture, window coverings, shelving, tools, camping stuff, gardening things to name a few from different areas. If you already live with your FI, & have the majority of everything already, (like we do), this could be a great opportunity to upgrade things you already have. Hopefully this helps you a little, and have fun registering! :):)
