Torn between two Pronovias dresses. Help!

Hey ladies - I'm torn between two dresses and would love your opinions as to which dress you generally like better.  I was set on the Pronovias Pergola at first:

Then found the Pronovias (White One) 411:

Regardless of which dress I go with, I'm going to pair it with a bolero in this style (not this exact one, though) for the ceremony (not a fan of the bolero that comes with the Pergola), and a delicate, sparkly belt:

I've tried a similar bolero on with both those dresses and while it may be hard to imagine with the 411 dress, it actually looks really great with both of them.

This is a picture with me in the Pergola.

Unfortunately I coudn't take pics at the place I tried on the 411, but here is me in something similar (it's not full length, but gives you the idea)

What I'm really torn between is going with the more romantic look of the Pergola, or the more contemporary look of the 411. Either way I'll be wearing a lacy coverup for our ceremony in a Spanish mission-style church, but I'm just not sure what look I want for the reception once the bolero comes off. Opinions?

Re: Torn between two Pronovias dresses. Help!

  • PS - sorry that is so hard to read - no idea what's going on with the formatting. :-S
  • I absolutely love the first dress.  Like a lot.  Like I want to buy it and wear it all the time LOL!

But I think you look amazing in both styles.

What kind of feel are you going for for your wedding?  Are you going for something a bit more romantic and traditional or something a bit more modern and sexy?

For what it is worth I think a lace cover up would look best with the first dress since it will accent the pretty lace already incorporated in the gown.  A lace coverup with the second dress may look out of place with the all satin gown.

Ahhh I don't know!!! So the second dress, although it's hard to imagine and I so wish I had a picture from when I tried it on, looks awesome paired with a lace bolero, belt, and a lace-trimmed mantilla, even though it seems like it would clash with all that satin.  I'm now leaning towards that one because I would have a romantic feel for the ceremony, then could shed the lace and veil and have a little more contemporary look for the reception.

Thanks so much for your input!  At this point I almost want someone else to just decide for me. I'm sick of obsessing over it!
  • I think the second one is stunning on you! The first one is a little too cupcake for me, but ny dress is similar to the second, so I'm bias.
  • Ohhh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first dress also. I want a do-over so I can wear that dress.

The first dress is gorgeous. I vote that one.
  • Thanks for the input, everyone!  I definitely feel more romantic and "bridal" in the first one, but feel more "fashionable" and bada$$ in the second one.

    BOTH look beautiful on you!

I personally like the second one, because that is more my style. :)
  • What's neat about the first one is, although it doesn't show up in these pics, the liner is more a mermaid shape and the outer lace layers are looser, giving it a more fitted feel and look in person. Although as one of my BM's keeps reminding me, I need to pay attention to what it looks like in pictures as well, and the fittedness definitely isn't apparent in photos. I don't want to look cupcake-y.
  • I don't think the first one looks cupcakey.  It is just a fuller a line while the other is more fitted.  Whenever you put a fuller dress next to a fitted one the fuller one will always come off "cupcakey" but that doesn't mean that it will look "cupcakey" when standing all on its own.  KWIM?

I hate to throw another wrench in here but have you thought about looking for a fitted dress like in your second picture but it be lace?  That way you get both the modern shape but romantic feel in the same dress?

This way the fittedness will make you feel bada$$ and sexy but the lace will still keep it soft and romantic.

PS:  I want to be a model for Pronovias.  All of the dresses are gorgeous.  Too bad I am about 30 pounds too heavy and 5 inches too short!

I don't think we are helping you! lol :).  They're both great dresses, you look gorgeous in both...it's not a clear winner and I can see why you are torn.  Even on the board here, some people like the first and some people like the second.

I'm slightly leaning toward the second.  Which is ironic because the first one is more my style. But I like the way you talk about the second one.  Don't we all want to look beautiful AND bad-ass in our wedding dress, lol?  And I'm sure you still have feelings of romance and bridal in the second one also.

Thanks for the input!  And you are right - I think I'm slightly leaning towards the second as well. I'm going to try them both on again on Saturday and just make a decision. If it takes flipping a coin, then so be it!!!

I LOVE that dress - but I've tried on a few that were all-over lace and they overwhelm me - I'm only 5' tall, which further compicates the dress search. Although that dress is gorgeous, and thanks for linking to it! Because of its slimmer lines, it might be worth trying despite the fact it's lace top to bottom.

Both are lovely but after reviewing twice, I believe I'd do 2nd one.

    Why?

    a. It is more flattering on your figure
    b. You are wearing it, vs. #1, which seems a bit like it is wearing you, KWIM?
    c. You spoke of feeling badass and being able to transition from 'ceremony-mode' to 'reception-mode' and I myself really like that idea for a bride

Go with 2nd, and use lace accessories (as you described), best of both worlds.

Wonderful choices!  Congratulations on...having good taste!

    LOL
  • I really like how the 2nd one fits you.

  • Can you get both? The pergola for the wedding and the 411 for the reception? Maybe the store will cut you a special deal? You look great in both!

My dress is a very similar cut to the first dress, but that said, I think the second one looks better on you :) either way, you have a winner!

  • You really need to consider the "feel" of your wedding when making this decision. The first is, of course, more full and "bridal" and might pair well with a vintage wedding while the second dress is more sassy and screams "old hollywood" in terms of the lines that it has.

Personally I like the second dress better on you because you are so petite and have a glorious figure that it really emphasizes. But then again that dress is more my style. The only reason, however, that I choose #2 is because I feel that #1 "swallows" you up a bit.

  • Thanks again, everyone!  I ended up going with a dress that is really similar to the second one:

I'm going to wear the lace bolero and veil for the ceremony in our Spanish, colonial style church, then shed all the extra stuff for a little more modern look for the reception. The second one really is more "me" - my aunt that was with me that day said the first is very "sweet" and "bridal", but the one I got has more attitude. And I have a lot of attitude. ;)

@Liatris2010 - I was worried about it making me look stumpy from the knees down as well, because I'm standing on a 5" platform in these photos, and the dress is STILL long.  What I ended up doing is getting heels that were as close to the height of that platform while still being wearable (I went with these - love them! http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/badgley-mischka-goodie-pump/3536581?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_ite=badgley_mischka_'goodie'_pump:514915_3&cm_pla=shoes:women:pumps&cm_ven=Froogle,Google_Product_Ads&mr:referralID=4e38adc6-c56b-11e2-9dea-001b2166becc)

Depending on how the dress looks with the heels, I agree that it might be a good idea to have the draping below my waist lifted a little bit.

Thanks again all - I really appreciate it!
