Reception Cookout HELP! Informal ideas??

My fiance and I are having an intimate family wedding and dinner on Friday night. On Saturday, we will be having a Reception Cookout on Saturday afternoon at a local farm.

This is the second wedding for both of us.  The Friday festivities are very intimate and formal.  The cookout is all about having a good time and celebrating. The cookout will not have anything "wedding" related.  Not a typical wedding reception. (Our date is June 2014.)

The venue is a barn.  We will be playing basketball, volleyball, corn hole, horseshoes, etc.  My fiance rented a bouncey house for our kids and 20+ nieces and nephews to enjoy.  We will be having a southern-style buffet meal.

My questions....Should we do a summer themed cookout?  We will be having inside seating with round tables.  I need some overall theme ideas that are fun, and very inexpensive.

I was thinking at first sight of the venue of lace, burlap and daisies.  But, the more I think about it, the more I want bright vibrant colors, maybe "crazy" daisy colors.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
Kellie

  • You could do denim instead of burlap, or red and white or blue and white checked tablecloths and napkins.  Or bandannas. A bit of lace or tulle tucked into it for femininity.  Think sunflowers, gerbera daisies (really bright colors), carnations, or gladiolus for color.  Mason jars as vases are a little tired but you could still do them, or you can pick up pieces of milk glass or antique jars at flea markets or garage sales.
