Taking His Last Name is Evidence of a Slave Mentality

I'm sure many of you will say 'oh, its so sweet, we can only be a FAMILY if I have his last name". Or you may cite 'confusion' that other might experience if your last name is different from his.

Of course, we all know where this tradition comes from: women, like black slaves, were the property of husband/masters in the 19th century. And like slavery, this country threw off such an oppressive institution, but yet women still take their husbands last name. Hyphenation is such a weak compromise. It just screams "i'm only a slave, sort of!"

For those of you who reject our culture's imposition of slave status, and retain the name your parents gave you....please disregard.

For you prospective slaves that embrace this loathsome custom, be warned that your indentured servitude shall only increase after you say "I Do"...for you will find yourself working 40 hours a week and coming home and doing the same thing because husband won't because Mommy did everything for him. And don't fool yourself...post marriage you morph into Mommy.   Don't add insult to injury by taking his last name. Retain some dignity for God's* sake.
