Putting this out there

I was just thinking today about DH's 20th HS reunion and realized that it is just about 7 weeks away. With my half-marathon now over, this will be my next big goal... so I'm putting this out there: I will give up sugar until after the reunion. After today, no dessert, no soda, no wine. I will continue to run a couple times a week and will start doing classes at the gym every week, as well as maybe starting Insanity.

What do you want to commit to today?

Re: Putting this out there

  • Finals completely jacked up my fitness schedule and my diet.

I'm committed to go back to yoga four times a week and zumba twice. I'm also commited to getting off the crappy fast food and back to cooking for myself. I'm also commited to practicing latin over the summer. It was hard enough in the semester... going back to it after the summer is going to suuuck.
  • You post made my little sugar-loving heart sad for you ;-; At least you'll look SMOKIN'!

My first 5k is in 6 weeks. My new asthma/allergy meds have made it so that I have not used my inhaler once, even while exercising, in 2 weeks. (I usually use it 10-20 a week). I've been slacking on running a little and not seeing the weight loss that I want. It probably has something to do with my sweet tooth.

I will join you. I had 2 beers and ice cream last night, and I think that was a great send off. I'll drop everything with you! I'll even cut out the sugar in my damn coffee.  So I'll commit to no sugar until June 16th. Then I will eat all the sugar and probably pass out from overload.

  • I commit to start eating 6 small meals a day instead of just 3 meals with a snack in there. I need to boost my metabolism so I also will start drinking more than 6-7 glasses of water a day. Yesterday I drank 9 so I'm off to a good start. I will also commit to getting up from my desk every hour to walk around or do jumping jacks or something.

  • I'm committing to not eating s'mores for breakfast anymore. >_<

Bah. I need to get serious. I will commit to exercising twice a week, and to filling up on fruit and veggies before any sweets. Maximum one small dessert per day. I feel ridiculous for being so far from where I should be, but this is where I've got to start, I guess.

Tiger, you are my hero at this moment.
  • I"m going to commit to having a wedding venue picked out and booked by next weekend. I also need to have all of my lines for the show memorized by this weekend, no more walking on stage with the script in my hand.

I'd like to commit to eating better and getting back on the workout train but there is still a lot of unpacking and things to do around the house that are becoming a priority and we're going to be do some small kitchen remodeling that might make it harder for me to really use the kitchen like I normally do.

    Anniversary

  • I commit to actually getting my sorry little butt in the kitchen and cooking rather than ordering in food. I also commit to cleaning my apartment more than when it gets so bad I can't stand to live there.

They're little, but I can keep those commitments.
So you have the rest of the day to eat all the sugar and drink all the wine. Make it count, my friend. Tomorrow at 2pm, I vow to eat everything. EVERYTHING. and also probably start running more.
    Posted by buggle2
Can we all vow to do this? It sounds like a good time.
  • On Monday I decided to give up alcohol until I reach my goal weight.

I'm also going to commit to finding a new apartment this summer, moving, and finally start being happier.

  • kmbryant - Yes, we can do this! I love sugar, so this will be a stretch... but I think it will be worth it. I will allow myself a beer occasionally, and maybe a Captain and Diet... but no more wines for awhile (boo).

amapola - aww... I don't think I should be anyone's here right now. I let myself go something fierce from March 2012 - January 2013, so this is just me re-committing to living healthier!

Lauren - Frederick will not be able to contain the level of hotness that will commence on June 8, 2013.

Liv - I ran a smoking fast (for me, at my current fitness level) 5k last week, and it was 31:10. When you are getting close to that 30 min mark, let me know and maybe we can run one together!

  • I'm committing to purchasing a new Jillian Michaels tape this week (because even though she's annoying she does design an effective workout), and to doing it at least every other day.  I'm also committing to being ~100 lbs. by the end of June, which is totally healthy for my tiny stature, just to clarify!

I am also committing to being more assertive about my job instead of worrying so much about overstepping.  I will inquire about potential advancements by the end of the month!

  • Belle - I was about to say WTF? But haha. Good for you! I wish I could hit 100 :/

Tiger - I'll chime into the accountability threads to make sure we're not cheating on sugar ;) The alcohol part was going to be hard for me, but I think weed will curb that want. I had my last coke for 6 weeks and I'm okay with that! Yeah!

Liv - You can do it! You are seriously an inspiration to me, I like hearing your successes :)

I'm pretty tiny too, so when I talk about ideal weight and such it's always quite different from most people discuss. So I totally understand :-)

    Anniversary

  • kmbryant - Ha, I definitely anticipated people wondering wtf was wrong with me--glad I clarified!  I'd totally forfeit being 100 lbs. if I had the privilege of being over five feet tall!  It's not all that great being the size of a 10 year old child!

danser - Glad you can relate!  People always side-eye the number, but it's like "hey, I'm half a foot shorter than you, we cannot weigh the same!"

I've been in meetings the last couple days and am uber late to the party: Tiger and Liv, I would love to run a 5k somewhere fun with you two! I ran a 31:00 race this past Saturday and would love race buddies!

  • I'm late because I'm stuck in training 10 hours a day at work this week, but I commit to reading lots of books while on summer break from school.

this week, I commit that I will try my best not to kill myself or someone else while my ILs are staying at my house.

This is why I love this board.  So many great women, supportive, fun, real.  Tiger, my wedding is on June 15, and I'm with you on these 3 things until that day.  Ugh.  The wine will be the hardest, for sure.

I'm also 'considering' committing to beginning to train for a half marathon in October.  I have my first 10k on Saturday, and I'm crazy nervous about it, but I also know that I've put in the time and the miles and should be just fine.  That tells me that I could do the same for 13.1, but it just seems like such a long way to run.  My best friend is training for a full, so I figure I could at least attempt to train for a half?  Maybe?  Ugh, I'm scared just thinking about it.

If I can run a half, you can definitely run a half!   I was contemplating going for number 2, but the races are all super close to my wedding.  The one before would be my best bet, but I'm afraid it will be super hot.

I plan on committing to a couple more races soon, and would love to hear about everyone's race training progress on here.

Good luck at the 10K, you will rock!

You can put whatever you want here. To me, it's illegal, and I wouldn't be going around talking about how I'm going to smoke up but I'm a prude like that.

  • I'm a prude like this: KM, it almost feels like you'd be replacing one vice with another. Which, to me, is kind of missing the point.

Not entirely, because if she's cutting out alcohol/drinking because of the extra calories/sugar, those things aren't being replaced by smoking.

But I'm not a prude and would much rather do the second over the first. So there's that.

  • I allow myself some vices, as I think most people do. I bike 15 miles a week. I hike 15 miles a week, I eat very healthy and I feel better than I have my entire life. For me, smoking is not a replacement for drinking, nor do I consider it a vice. I had a medical marijuana card when I was in California. I am not afraid to talk about it, like the DEA is going to come get me.

I smoke pot. And I said it on the internet. I would never push it, encourage it, or recommend it to other people. It's just something that I do. I don't consider it a 'dirty little secret', its a way of relaxing for me, just like drinking is for other people. I understand that it is illegal and I have had my fair share of discussions with the law about it. I just don't mind talking about it, is all. I don't flaunt it, it's just a fact of life.

Sorry if it bothered y'all, it was not my intention. It was just a statement, that could have just as easily been left out, I admit.

Nah Stitch, I don't get offended. Keeps the world going 'round :) Just wanted to explain my thought pattern.

Bri - I will reccommend to people who are curious, or who ask me, but it's not quite like I'm going to say to strangers 'Hey, chill out man. Smoke some pot, man.' ;)

ETA: I might have said that exact line before, now that I think about it.
