Writing own Vows?

I was wondering if any of you who are writing your own vows, still saying something to the effect of "Do you___ take__ to be your husband/wife" Or "With this ring" after each of you have said the vows that you wrote? Or Are you exchanging rings after one person goes? I'm confused as to what to do.

    Agreed with the other posters.

    1. Check your state/county requirements
    2. Check with your minister or officiant
    3. Make sure to ask you FI if he's on board with writing his own vows

    The previous posts are very helpful, not everybody knows this type of things.  It is always better to check is there are requirements for the ceremony. 

    You don´t want to miss something and then find out that you are not really married.

    All of this.

    One more:  Inside jokes and anything really private or that's more likely to leave family members or guests not understanding or appreciating the "humor" or "creativity" behind it is probably best left for when you and your FI are in private and not incorporated into the public vows.

    I'm getting married in Colorado, when I was looking at licence info it didn't specify. His aunt is marrying us and he's nervous to do it, but really into the idea!

    I think we will do it this way. Say our vows, then exchange the rings after. We have to be able to say "I do'! Thats a fun part right?

    Yeah, I have read that you shouldn't have too many jokes and things. I really am focusing on the actual vows that I am promising. Maybe one cute joke. Its only going to be about 80-70 closest family and friends so they'll get the jokes.

    It's actually they way the law requires it here in NJ.
