Furniture Rental

So I had this cute idea about bringing couches out onto the beach for my beach reception
and having a "lounge area" for cocktail hour and such. I asked my coordinator how much this usually is and she says it starts at $1,000.
STARTS?? My mind is blown.
Has anyone ever gotten couches or rental furniture for an event?? If so, was it this pricey?
Any other ideas of how I could keep this cost down??

Re: Furniture Rental

  • Depending on how many couches, I'm sure the cost is high due to the likelihood of damage which might come from being on a beach.
  • We didn't rent that kind of furniture (we did rent tables and chairs), but that price seems about right depending on where you are having the wedding.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    1. Buy a bunch of couches from a thrift store or garage sales.
    2. Rent a storage unit to hold the couches until your wedding
    3. Rent a u-haul and hire a moving crew to get the couches to the location on the wedding day
    3. Cover the couches in slip covers
    4. Call 1-800-GOTJUNK and have them show up at the beach after your reception to haul away the couches

Haha, I tried my best. But sorry, but this is a really impractical idea.
  • I rented lounge furniture for a wedding on a horse estate.  We put four lounge groupings together in different places--white leather sofa, chair, end table, coffee table.  Put julep cup of flowers on each coffee table.  Guests loved them.  They were talking, drinking, and using them all night.  I highly recommend.

Ask for "packages" from Cort.  That saved us about $1,000.  They have to send all the pieces if you do a package, which meant that we received lamps for all the tables.  We just stored them indoors during the event.  There were also some square ottomans I didn't use, but it was worth the savings to move a few little things inside.

The downside--yes--it is absurdly expenses.  My four lounge furniture clusters cost $2,600.  If you can do rental furniture for closer to $1,000, I think you're doing great.  Felisha.Cook (at) Cort (dot com) if you want to reach out to her--she had the contract and everything done within 24 hours.  It was very efficient.  Cort has plenty of outdoors friendly furniture--wicker with cushions--etc.  They have a whole section of their catalog devoted to outdoors selections.

Here's the link to Cort's site--you can download the whole catalog on the top right of the header.  Or check out the "Outdoors" section: http://www.cortevents.com/

I would also add that the above is likely to cost you way more than $1000 anyway.

Perhaps you should think of another type of seating instead of couches? It really is impractical for the beach; and it's expensive because of that. Maybe some lounge chairs with cute cushions/pillows, and little side tables?
