Family members complaining about Accommodation Costs

My fiancé and I are getting married about 5 hours away from where we live. 90% of our wedding guests will be traveling for our wedding. We have provided all of our guests with hotel/accommodation options and information. We've basically given a list of 6 different local places (Ranging from Camping & RV sites, Motels, Hotels & Fancy Resorts) all within various budgets. The cheapest option is $25 per night!

Yet STILL my Fiancé's Step-Mom complains non-stop about how "outrageously expensive" everything is. Literally, every single time we see her, she makes some sort of angry, awkward comment about the cost of accommodations. It's VERY uncomfortable.

How should we deal with this?

I feel like we are providing a lot of viable, affordable options.. yet still she still finds something to complain about! In moments of frustration I want to tell her to just save the $25 a night and forget about coming altogether! (gah! of course I do not actually say that!!)

What do you think? Should I have my fiancé talk to her? Or should we just continue to ignore his step-Mom and try not to not let it get to us?

Re: Family members complaining about Accommodation Costs

  • Money talk is defintely awkward though, especially with it being his side of the family..  I'd definitely ignore her.. she just wants something to pick at.. if $25 is that big of a deal she can stay at home.
  • Agreed, ignore the Negative Nancy.
  • I'd ignore her. Or politely suggest that she take to Priceline and find her own accommodations.
  • Oh come on... $25??  I would just pay it to shut her up.  If it was like $250 a night, yes that is ridiculous.  Maybe she can share a room with someone else and split the cost?

  • Agreed, ignore. Someone is bound to complain about something.
