Smith Barn in Peabody

Has anyone had their, or been to, a wedding at the Smith Barn in Peabody? I like the pictures I see and what I read about it online. But I'm curious what they charge and whats included. I plan on calling and making an appt. to go see it, but I'd like to have some sort of idea what to expect before we go. Any and all comments are helpful! thanks ladies!

I am getting married there next August, we paid 3,000 for the venue which only includes bar service, tables and chairs. You have to bring in an outside caterer which will provide tablecloths, plates silverware..I think the place is very neat...and the caterer I am going with has done a ton of weddings there so hopefully they will have things under control...

That sounds reasonable, may I ask who your using for a caterer? Also, do you remember if they have a maximum capacity at all? I plan on having a small(ish) wedding anyway, (under 125 people) but I was just curious.

I looked at them about a month ago.I was quoted $3500 for just the reception on a Saturday night. It is $2000 for a Friday or a Sunday. Ceremony is more $$$. This includes bar service and tables only, nothing else. Also, the bar has to be all cash or all hosted, they don't have cocktail hours or wine on the tables. They are completely booked for Saturdays in 2010 except for September 11th and late November. They only had Sundays in August, and this was a month ago.It is very pretty, but if the weather is bad they will have to close the barn doors, and then it feels a bit dark and cramped. It can hold 250, but some tables will be on the second level. With only 125 you will on be on the first level. They only use certain caterers, if you want your own you have to pay more. The coordinator doesn't work through email, which I HATE. I like using email so every sentence is in writing, plus I find it easier than playing phone tag. Those are all the negatives, there are plenty of positives, it is picture perfect and only one wedding a day, it has a lovely patio area and is perfect for a more casual wedding. The day I saw it they were setting up a clambake for a wedding, the tables were set up with wildflower centerpieces and it looked like something out of a magazine.

hi therei am getting married there in may of 2010. we loved it. very unique feeling. we though it was reasonable. we are having on a sunday though. we are using one of the recommended caterers vinwood. which have been amazing so far. i have heard rave reviews about them and plus they were the preferred caterers at our other choice the turner hill mansion which was a plus.  :)i do hate that the wedding planner is not available by email which does stink. but ah i feel like every place has it draw backs. right?good luck.

Did either of you end up using paper lanterns? I'm getting married there next year and am thinking of doing the same.
    Thanks!
  • We went to a friends wedding there last August and it was beautiful. We inquired and got the same price everyone here is posting.
The ceremony site outside is very nice (although it started to rain at the wedding when we were there, but just got the ceremony in.
We met our DJ there at that wedding he is one of their preferred DJ's there. DJ Rick Bellanti  He runs a special there which includes the outside Ceremony. The person in charge at the Smith Barn is very nice and very knowledgeable and helpful. You need to use one of their caterers, I think they have 5 to choose from. Its very rustic and outside is picturesque. They have an upstairs and I think can accommodate up to 200 guests altogether.
  • I went to a wedding there about 2 years ago. Really pretty, really great. What I really liked about it was that they kept the barn doors open during the reception so people were easily moving inside/outside but still felt like part of the party. If you weren't in the mood to dance you could go outside to catch some fresh air and chat without having to scream to the person you were talking too.The barn doors were so big you still felt like you were a part of the party while you were outside too. My one complaint is that there is NO AC!!! It was an extremely hot August day and it got really toasty in there! Other than that, I thought it was great!
