Amazon Registry Question

Hey!

So my cousin has a Amazon wedding registry. There are a couple items on the registry that DH and I would like to get for her and her FI. One of the items, we're getting in a B&M store though because it's a better deal.

On their registry, beside each item, there's a button that says 'buying this gift somewhere else?'. I want to click it so that no one duplicates the gift, but it requires my email address and name.

My question is (hopefully someone will know this), will that info be sent to my cousin?  (Will she know it was DH and I that bought this gift)?

    I don't remember, but I don't think so.  I have an Amazon wish list that my family used to get Christmas ideas for last year and my sister purchased one of the items.  It didn't show who purchased the item, just that it was purchased.

    Well, Amazon does do a Thank You list for the couple, so it's possible that your name will go on the list, so if your cousin checks it, she will know that you got those items.  IME, there's not really a reason to check the list unless you receive a gift that does not have a tag.  It's also possible that Amazon just wants you to put in a name and email address so people don't click "buying this gift somewhere else" accidentally.

    That's also partially my thought. I mean really, it's not a huge deal if she knows we're the ones that purchased it. I just like to surprise people and didn't know if Amazon would shoot them an email saying 'So and So got you this item'.

    Amazon will send you an e-mail to confirm you bought the item. This is to prevent an incident where you check something off the list and then go to your other store to purchase it and they're out of stock or the price is greater than you thought it would be or whatever. If you don't end up purchasing it elsewhere you can just cancel it through that e-mail. The gift tracker will log whatever information you do give—I think just name and e-mail if you choose to provide it.
